Meditating on God’s Word. Is it an option?
We face challenges and decisions almost every day and many do not feel they have time to stop and listen to God’s voice. The first truth is most don’t feel confident that they have ever heard it or confident that He would speak in time or with clear enough direction to give them direction. I have certainly reached out to confer with friends that I trusted, (Spiritually mature) or to professionals and often the latest book or google I could find on the subject. None of these are bad things, and they almost always provide direction or options going forward. But none of them necessarily tell you what God’s will is for you in that situation. The greatest source we can have is God’s word. He reveals Himself in His word. He literally speaks to us in His word as it comes alive as we read it.
When Joshua took over after Moses died, he didn’t call an assembly of leaders together or read the latest copy of Lead for your Life. He turned directly to God’s word and the direction and assurances of God Himself. Josh 1:7
“Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the laws my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go”.
So what truth do you read here? Obey the law! Read God’s word! Do not be distracted by turning to this person or that, turn to me! SO that you may be successful! Are you listening? We don’t need to find a better way to say it. Nor a softer way to present it. No excuses or partial obedience. Just stand on the word! When the dust settles and all the confusion lifts… You will be very near where you are supposed to be because your standing on God’s word. It is His job alone to look over it, prove it, bring it to pass. Not Ours! Our job is to listen/read and obey!
He went on to say, do not let my word pass from your mouth. Meditate on it day and night vs 8 We can all admit how easy it is to become distracted, or forgetful, we need more than a magnet with a scripture on the refrigerator! Come on… stay with me… be honest with God. We have not, because we ask not. Ask God to help with your understanding so when you read His word it will come alive to you. Do a word study on the topic or general direction you are looking for. You will discover what God thinks and says about that. It’s there! Meditate on it. Lets it ferment in your mind and heart. Listen to understand and obey. His word is His way! Its how you can know what “according to his will” really means.
If this is foreign to you. Don’t let fear or uncertainly paralyze you from stepping forward and reading Gods’ word. That is Satan trying to derail you. It is your stubbornness and laziness to not want to follow through and go along the same old way. STOP! Turn around. Go back and read it again. Josh 1:7 “Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go”.
If you struggle with this and need help. Call me, email me, text me. We can do this… in Jesus’ name!
Lord I don’t want to repeat yesterday’s mistakes. I want to walk in confidence and in the power of Your might. Help me in my unbelief. I am going to spend a few minutes reading today Lord. Help me honor you.
