Building a Wall around our Eyes!

2 Cor 16- 9 “ For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him. Herein thou hast done foolishly: therefore from henceforth, thou shalt have wars.

We choose where we ‘look’ spiritually. It is our responsibility. Job acknowledged his ability to make such a choice when he said, “I made a covenant with my eyes not to look lustfully at a young woman.” (Job 31:1 NIV11) In the current world of tights and curves and cleavages, we can see that task is easier said than done! What can we do to make sure we are protecting our spiritual eyesight?

Garbage in garbage out. What you put into your mind you will reap the harvest that may be a whirlwind for you when it takes root. It’s not just porn but our TV shows and even our PG movies. Wow has PG changed over the years.

James Dobson said decades ago when he was part of the pornography commission that after watching hours and hours of the same debauchery that your senses become dull to their full impact. You become, shamefully desensitized to the depth of darkness. So, it is with TV and movies. Do you remember, I love Lucy or Father knows best sitcoms in the reruns? Things have progressed to greater depths of what is now acceptable even for our kids to watch. You even have to guard your eyes against what the middle and high schoolers are wearing to school. They are 13 going on 21 by the way they look.

We must build a team of people around us that make up our regiment. They help hold us accountable by having like-minded goals and dreams and lifestyles. We need them and they need us to help build that wall of accountability around us and around our eyes. If your team is living in the world and not in church or with God. You know what you get. Let’s not kid ourselves.

Everyone looks, stares, and tries to be unseen when they are lusting after this perfectly lovely woman. I know it is harder in the way some women dress today but that is no excuse to fall prey to Satan’s devises and compromises. They are not objects, but they are someone’s daughter or wife and even if we think it in our minds we have fallen.

Matthew 6:22-23 “The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light, but if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light in you is darkness,
how great is the darkness!

We need people who hold their friends accountable. We talk about these hard topics, we press into our phone and computer time and let them see what we are seeing. If you want to put a wall up around your eyes you must desire to see what God sees. You must seek to surround yourself with other men who are not just Christians but growing in God in knowledge and truth. People who will motivate you, inspire you to raise your game, and press in closer to Christ.

Ps 34:15 “The eyes of the LORD are on the righteous,
and his ears are attentive to their cry”;

As we lay a firm foundation at home. As we give the Holy Spirit real access to our daily living. As we begin to see through the eyes of the Holy Spirit, so our children and friends begin to see a change in us. It will be more obvious than you imagine. When Moses came down from the mountain after spending time with God you could see it on his face. He walked in the Glory of God himself. You could hear it in the way he spoke. That can be you and me. You can be an influencer like Moses, or Paul or Stephen, or anyone of our forefathers. It says, “His ears are attentive to their cry!” That can be you if it isn’t now. It can be more if you will give more of your eyes to seeing what He sees.

Proverbs 2:1-3 says, “My son, if you receive my words, and treasure my commands within you, so that you incline your ear to wisdom, and apply your heart to understanding; yes, if you cry out for discernment, and lift up your voice for understanding….” A wise person is teachable.

Will you come to pray with your family for just one hour this week. Perhaps you can begin by holding your spouse’s hand at bedtime and saying your prayers.
