THIS DAY I CALL THE HEAVENS AND EARTH AS WITNESSES against you, I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live Deut 30:19 Wow, pretty easy choice right? But it’s not like asking the kids if they want an apple or banana for lunch. This is more like – Air or No Air! These are some of the last words God spoke to Moses before he died. But the command: “Choose life” is more than a decision to keep on breathing. God’s command to choose life is defined in Deuteronomy 30:16: “For I command you today to love the Lord your God,to walk in God’s ways, and to keep God’s commandments.”
This is not Valentines day, send a card kinda love. It means walking in God’s way. NOT the way of Adam; “By one man, sin entered into the world and death through sin, and so death passed to all people because all have sinned.” Romans 5:12
It means keeping the commandments. Therefore, to “Choose Life” we MUST have a change of heart! And that change can ONLY come through faith in Jesus, who graciously teaches us: “You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit…” John 15:16 Bearing Fruit… Choosing life… Living God’s way is God’s work of grace in us, daily.
Part of my responsibility in choosing life daily IS for my children and my children’s children. Don’t miss the part that says I CALL out the heavens as witnesses.
That means I choose to FIGHT every day for God in my life. For Strength and vision for the day. For love and understanding for the day. .. That I can show God in every moment of my daily path. OR NOT! I believe it means that living life for God, washes down to my kids and family and to many others too. I believe we are all leaders…. leading others somewhere by what we do and how we live… This verse tells us that THIS DAY… we have a choice of Life and Death… Blessings and Curses… CHOOSE LIFE… SO YOU AND YOUR CHILDREN MAY LIVE! It sounds pretty easy… but we must be intentional in our walk, because so much is at stake and because everyone is watching…My wife… kids… friends… coworkers… and Especially God.
With the apostle Paul we rejoice: “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.” Galatians 2:20
