Closed off Closets
“He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall, but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint” (Isaiah 40:29-31)
If you are like me, you have had more than enough time of late. More than enough pauses and more than enough frustrations of being cooped up and isolated at home.
Did that include time to reset your priorities, evaluate your family time, and or determine what life clutter needs to go? Honestly, that is a hard subject and an uncomfortable process.
If you’re like me, you have trouble throwing things out. I spent much time cleaning out my attic and boxes of old stuff lately. I found some real treasures along the way that I properly repacked, categorized, or gave to the appropriate people. But I threw out a bunch of stuff! It was amazing how much space I had. Clutter Free. I felt like those scary closets I had been avoiding for years no longer had a hold on me.
I also had time to look at some emotional clutter, relationship clutter, and lazy habit clutter that actually kept me from the freedom God had intended for me. Once you eliminate what you don’t need… Once you have freed up some soul space… you feel this weight that lifts off you… you have more room for God and more room for peace in the midst of the chaos. My quiet time became a little louder as I was able to hear back from God. Personal worship. Personal appreciation for my family, my spouse, and my God. I find myself quiet… staring out into nature just taking in the beauty that God gave to me and to all of us. It was humbling to just be still in his handwork.
King David said it like this, “I waited patiently for the LORD; he turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God” (Psalm 40:1-3a).
Are you ready to make that move?
That commitment to open up some of those closed closets of pain, hurt, abandonment, regrets, busyness, and unforgiveness? We all have closed closets, but I’ve found that God causes us to open them when we are ready for His light to bring healing and freedom. There is still time. Take it! Surrender it to God. Let Him carry the weight of those past life fractures and failures. It was never meant for you.
Revelation 21:23 And the city has no need of the sun or of the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God has illumined it, and its lamp is the Lamb.
Lord reveal to me those hidden hurts and buried torments of my life. Holy Spirit help me to lay them down and breathe in more of you.
Empower me to rise above so that I might see the Son shine brighter today.
