D Day Gen Eisenhower – Spiritual Battle – Part 2 of 2
D Day: (continued from yesterday). Gen Eisenhower labored over; What If this invasion did no go well? What if, they failed? The general had considered that in agony over the weeks and days prior to D day. In fact, the evening before the invasion he wrote a brief note accepting responsibility for the operations failure should the day be lost. Here is that note:
“Our landing in the Cherbourg-Havr area have failed to gain satisfactory foothold and I have withdrawn the troops. My decision to attack at this time and place was based upon the best information available. The troops, the air, and the Navy did all that bravery and devotion to duty could do. If any blame or fault attaches to the attempt, it is mine alone.”
Have you ever prepared to fail? Or thought it might not work and wrote a note, taking full responsibility for it? I know that I don’t do that well. Accepting blame without an excuse? Justification? Tough one…
Isn’t that another side of accountability? Yuk.. don’t like that word either.
We recently finished a series by Tony Evans on spiritual warfare. He said that we are we have a spiritual battle that is raging on two fronts. The first front is cosmic in scale.
It’s a battle between good and evil. In Ephesians 6: 12 – 13 “We do not wrestle against flesh and blood but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual host of wickedness in the heavenly places. Take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand”
The Second front is more personal. It’s a battle between right and wrong in our hearts as individuals, between rebellion against God and obedience to his will. It’s a daily struggle to put to death our sinful nature and embrace the righteousness we have received through Christ. In 2nd Corinthians 10:3-6 “So though we walk in the flesh we do not war according to the flesh, for the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the law and the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled”.
The truth is we take these battles too lately. The fact is we don’t have to look far to see the ravages and destruction this spiritual battle has caused. Just watch the news. Listen to your heart.
Can you look at planet Earth today and not feel like everything is ripping apart at the seams? On a personal front, Christians and non-Christians, feel crushed by the weight of anxiety, fear, loneliness and confusion. The constant toll of temptation. If the truth be known, we are intimately aware of the darkness in our own hearts and the world! That’s the bad news
The good news is incredible! The truth is, the battle has already been won. Our enemy was decisively defeated by the death and resurrection of Christ! Colossians 2:14-15 “the universe will be made new and made whole once again and we will live to see the day, that is the promise of God‘s word.” If you have time read revelations 21:1-5 LISTEN TO HIS WORDS!
John 16:33 I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world, you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”
Joshua 1:9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
2 Thessalonians 3:3 But the Lord is faithful. He will establish you and guard you against the evil one.
Ephesians 1:19-23 And what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the working of his great might that he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come. And he put all things under his feet and gave him as head over all things to the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills all in all.
Do you need more? Could anyone say it better? Could it be more clear and absolute! Choose you this day who you will believe. As for me and my house, I will choose the Lord.
