Two songs came to mind as I prepared my thoughts today. I love you just the way you are. Billy Joel (Certainly not a Mothers Day theme but I loved what it had to say.) And – Just the way God made you – by Blanco Brown.
I’ll take you just the way you are! That was my Mom. Through the good times and too many bad times, she was the rock that stood out over the storm. She was the shelter when the wind turned monsoon. She was my Mona Lisa that never seemed to change except in a good way. She was consistently there for me. Mom could find some heart or levity in the most serious dilemma’s I thought I was in. She had a way of changing my perspective on life as a whole. She could calm me down like no other and could lite a fire under me like no one’s business too.
Proverbs 31:25: “She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come.”
Mom wasn’t perfect but she was “My Mom”. We had our differences but in the end, she loved me like no other. I can only hope that one day I can pass on the wisdom and emulate the sacrifices she made for me with half the grace she had.
Deuteronomy 4:9: “Only be careful, and watch yourselves closely so that you do not forget the things your eyes have seen or let them fade from your heart as long as you live. Teach them to your children and to their children after them.”
As a parent, I understand the long days and long nights. I understand praying for a miracle or breakthrough when the kids were in trouble or sick all night. I am just now learning so many things I attribute to her strength and resolve to raise up good kids. She didn’t try to dilute things or serve up a false narrative she was always the way of straight-ahead truth. She didn’t want to hurt my feelings, but she would come with the truth because I needed to hear it. Who does that?
Luke 2:51: “And his mother treasured up all these things in her heart.”
I have no idea how many times I broke her heart or sold her short. She deserved better. And although I so often failed her, she always loved me just the way I was.
Proverbs 31:31: “Honor her for all that her hands have done, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.”
I honor you today Mom. I know there are many Mom’s who have gone on to be with the Lord. But I believe we can honor them by thanking God for them even today.
Proverbs 31:28–29: “Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: ‘Many women have done excellently, but you surpass them all.'”
Thank you Mom for always being there for me. I bless you today for who you are… For what you have sacrificed… For having believed in me… forgiven me, a thousand times. You loved me just the way I am. I could always be myself.
I love you Mom. Some things you can count on. That’s you! Some things never change! That’s you.! The Fact that I love you more than life itself is beyond the words that I can communicate. Mom, may I never stop blessing you in my prayers and singing your praises.
