Thanksgiving – Are you truly thankful enough to surrender your regrets…And Live Free?
Have you thought of what Regret does to you? Have you thought about what it is? We just want to give up because of (Name your reason or reasons) They hang on us and build these strongholds within us, that keep us captive. They will not go away just because we keep them behind closed doors or buried in the cellar of our inner being. They have become a part of the fabric that filters everything you do and say and think. They will just continue to grow and become this chronic cancer inside of you that eats away at your life organs. They affect you neurologically, weaken your immune response, and affect your blood pressure, hormones, energy level, and sleep patterns.
It gives us a sense of stuckness and a sense of longing for what could have been.
When I researched regret it said; “Regret is typically based on the degree to which your ideal self (the person you dreamed of becoming — what you believe you COULD BE) diverges from your actual self (the person you are in reality)” And then it begged the question, how is regret different than failure? “one offers you a second chance. Failure means you can try again. In addition, the pain that arises from a failure is only temporary and fades with time. Regret is much more substantial, and the pain it causes us can plague us until the end of our days.” Research also stated: “Regret seems to promise that we’ll be a better person—as long as we feel regret. In this way, it’s actually common for people to confuse feeling bad about themselves with being a good person. And that’s how regret tumbles into a toxic feedback loop that can be lifelong and worsen over time.”
Interestingly, they say people’s biggest regret is “They wish they had been happier and enjoyed life more. Most people regretted the time they wasted worrying about things beyond their control. They didn’t realize they were capable of choosing fun and happiness until it was too late. Spend a few minutes every day doing something that you love and that brings you joy”.
Interesting the Holy Spirit offers us so much more than a choice of fun and happiness. (John 14:26-27). says. He knows the feelings of struggle and victory. The Holy Spirit reminds us of what we’ve already learned and instructs us through the choices we make to win the race “
So how do you let the Holy ‘Spirit take control? For me, it asking him every morning to walk with me, talk with me, guide me, and give me wisdom for the day. I tell him that I want him to be first in my life. I want to honor him in the things that I do and think and believe. I tell him I do not want these old trappings that hang on me like rags, or those old words that have filled my mouth. I pray each day that He will fill me with His Holy Spirit and then…BE READY TO OBEY!
How can you complete your life? How can you get around the bend in your river? When you’re feeling empty, defeated, and discouraged, Or when you’re happy with your life… prayer will make your life complete. Love, joy, peace, relief, comfort…these are all things that are found in connection with God. Prayer is not so hard. Our Father who art in heaven hallowed be your name! Every morning it’s about surrendering the control you think you have to the direction and sovereignty of God himself. (do you think he knows what’s best for his kids? Isn’t it time that we begin trusting God? Trusting his word. Trusting his promises; And then speaking that out of our mouths every morning and mean it!
Yes, I know whatever this regret or burden you are carrying may not have done away completely after you prayed that prayer or after you surrendered it at 6 am this morning. Now it’s time to Obey. It’s time to really surrender those nagging feelings and raging thoughts and take every thought captive as in
2 Cor 5. You are in a war. You have built these strongholds around your mind and emotions to these negative thoughts and feelings that literally torment us. But we MUST come to a place where we
TRUST GOD. We must lay these things, beyond our control, at the foot of the cross again…and again and if necessary again. How many times? Seventy times seven!
Trusting God begins by reading his word. Its promise is to change the way you think, act, and feel.
It will change you.
Make a deposit every day into the savings account of your spirit, heart, and soul of a love for Jesus that is bigger than the withdrawal you have been taking out of regret, blame, shame, and failure…. Leaving you with an empty bucket of emotion to live by. Only the Holy Spirit can fill your bucket with things that matter. They call them the fruits of the Holy Spirit. Gal 5:22 “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control”. Fruits of nourishment for His children to live by… to war by… to be sustained by…to love by.
