The Fragrance of the Breastplate of Righteousness
Brian Clements gave a message a few years back and did a wonderful job of drawing a picture of the Breastplate of Righteousness. I still remember it. One of three pieces of Armor we are to put on every day, just like we do our clothing. It isn’t necessary… It’s VITAL to living the divine life God wants you to live here and now! He talked about smelling the love in the house when he walks in from a hard day, and his wife has prepared this loving meal for him.Â
It lifted him immediately. He could literally smell the love in that food.Â
2 Corinthians 2:14-16 “Now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place”.
How is that for a correct perspective? Our heavenly father wants us to love His food also.Â
To smell the fragrance of his word. He said to not let it depart from our mouth day or night.Â
There is a taste. He says to love the food of His word exactly the same way.Â
Love the instruction to guide you through the valleys of life and the spiritual battles all around us.Â
He said to love your giving. Not giving begrudgingly, but loving the serving.Â
Loving the sacrifice. Developing a taste for the heavenly… for righteousness here and now.Â
Are you getting a picture here?
He said to love the attitude of the love you give out. Others can smell it and see the righteous attitude of a prepared heart. A humble heart. A protected and esteemed heart.
He said, what if we feed this Breastplate of Righteousness like we feed our bodies?
How emboldened might we be? How discerning of the things, we might see?
The purity of the heart changes those things, those thoughts that invade our minds.
His words change our hearts and filter everything passing to our minds, and it changes our filter and what we see, how we see it, and how we act it out!
It ceases to be a chore or a heavyweight… and becomes a desire… a fervor… a want to!
Something real has happened. The pure righteousness of God himself fires up our sins like a burning caldron, and past inclinations, temptations, and worldly tendencies…
all of a sudden, seem to just be gone.
And we have what we have never had in this area. A yearning for the righteousness of God in our lives.
Lord, let me see your glory. Let me know the righteousness that is mine by adoption. Help me smell it, want it, and live it every day with a passion I have never known before. Prepare me for the battle today, and let me see what is really spiritually happening around me.
