The Temptation of Today

Our nation is in such turmoil and division and it carries with it the temptation of fear, anxiety, and even revenge for some.  We carry them into our homes.  The Scriptures tell us that we all face them. 1st Corinthians 10:13 says, “No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man.” Perhaps this provides a little encouragement as we often feel that the world is bearing in on us alone, while others are immune to temptations.

John the Evangelist in his epistle calls these temptations as “lust of eyes” (materialism), “lust of body” (hedonism), and “pride of life” (egoism).

The fact is we are battling temptation every day… we are in a war, a war with an enemy who wants to destroy us. He wants this because he is envious of the excellence we receive from God.

A word the Lord gave me ties right into this. “Temptations will always be here to derail and distract you from the true prize. ME!  You know that, yet you struggle in the daily application of your true devotion.  Why?  You know who I AM.  You know what I can do and have done.  Yet you are not as strong as you know you need to be.  The reason is that you cannot do what you need to do with your own strength.  It’s not by might or power/strength but by my spirit that makes you successful, sensitive, and full of grace and mercy for others.   Focus.

You must focus and believe that by putting me first, my blessings can come in full measure.   By changing your focus, you turn from the fog to the clarity in mind, spirit, and peace for the journey.  Can you not see the truth of my words?  I never contradict myself.  It is always confirmed in my word.  It is easy to verify if you would just dig deeper.  My words hold your freedom and your peace. COME  The path is lit for you”.

Lord walk with me today. Do not let me be dragged away by the vileness of the world.  Holy Spirit let your word wrap around my thoughts to protect them and the words that I speak. Lord, I will set my gaze upon you and you alone.  My words will sing your praises today as I will be surely lifted above the darkness around me. Less of me Lord and more of you.
