There’s Our Bucket List – But What is God’s Bucket List For US?
God is always there for what matters. I believe that, and I pray you do too. But it got me thinking when was the last time you thought about what really matters to you most? We all have some sort of bucket wish list.
But do you have a “What really matters most to God List?”
Putting things in their proper order is important, right? We must reorganize our desk, the garage, and the refrigerator from time to time because it just becomes this mess! It is all good stuff but it has started to become unmanageable in its present state. I can’t find what I need because of these leftovers that just need to go away.
The realignment of living requires some thought and intentionality and if you are wise… a bit of accountability too. This is one that we really want to include our spouse because the wisest alignment of your life makes her your key partner.
But we also need another man to talk with also.
(If you are not involved in a men’s group, join one. If you are in our area, I encourage you to join us at our Courageous Men’s group that meets every Monday at 7 pm at Grace Family Church in Land O Lakes)
What matters most? First, I hope a relationship with our Heavenly Father and His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, is most important. This relationship matters most now and in eternity. Of course, we all know that but what does the alignment of our lives look like? What do our relationships look like?
Do they mirror the practice of Love in the two greatest commandments?
Second; Family relationships are not always a blessing. Some have come from battered homes, no homes, and broken homes. So, we include extended family, friends, and even church families as “family.”
These relationships are essential for emotional and physical health.
Nurturing these important relationships is a choice. A choice to be part of a family requires commitment, love, patience, communication, and forgiveness. There may be times when we disagree with another person, but we can do so without being disagreeable. In courtship and marriage, we don’t fall in love or fall out of love as though we are objects being moved on a chessboard. We choose to love and sustain one another. We should do the same in all relationships
and with friends who are like family to us.
What is critically important in relationships is our efforts to love our family and neighbors as ourselves, being forgiving, understanding, graciousness when it would be easier to take on the spirit of offense and just say, “I’m Done!”
But can I share with you that IF it does matter to you… It matters to God!
“Are not five sparrows sold for two copper coins? And not one of them is forgotten before God. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.
Luke 12:6–7
We laid out the premise that our bucket list should have at the very top, the two greatest commandments as the filter of living a life that will honor God and honor you too. But don’t you think you should put what is honestly on your list, put them down on paper, and lay them before God? Don’t you think you should ponder, what your dreams really are? You are spending a lifetime working toward something. Shouldn’t you have specific plans of achievement… a heart’s desire…or an unquenchable passion?
God is very definite in this scripture that God cares about everything in your life.
If he can care for one single hair then there is nothing too small for his attentiveness. He cares and wants you to know that you don’t have to overcome any problem on your own. No matter how trivial it may seem to you, God wants to take care of it and help you walk quietly by the still waters.
So again, your bucket list is comprised of what hopes and what dreams?
What do you think God’s bucket list looks like for you?
What do you think that would detail for you?
Don’t you think your life should be an offering to God?
Shouldn’t they be included in that incense to Him?
So, what is the bottom line of God’s bucket list?
Then Jesus said, “On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets” (Mat. 22:40). Everything that God says to you, all that he calls you to do, can be summed up in these two things: Love God with all your heart.
Love your neighbor as yourself.
Are these the most important bucket items in your life today? If not, what is? Many use workplace coaches to achieve greater aims at work and to gain more clarity in their purposes. So why not a spiritual coach? If you want to talk about that…give me a shout or shoot me a note. I am praying for you.
