From a Christian perspective, crafting a Mission, Action, and Vision statement aligns with biblical principles of intentional living, stewardship, and purpose. I would like to lay out the perspective
I have been taught on how Scripture supports this practice:
Honestly, how easy do you lose you focus on God? How about your appetite for His word?
Most of us went to an altar, had a quiet moment in our chair, and someone led us to the Lord.
Some percentage of us go to church and 10% of us tithe. But few…too few really press into the deeper waters of God. Can I motivate you today to take another step…believe and have faith for a better life…
a better tomorrow? But it will not be easy peasy.
We are winding down to our Special New Year New You Goal Setting Challenge Event On Monday.

And I have a Special Guest Writer for you on Monday morning.
Without a Plan…My People Perish.
- A MISSION STATEMENT – What is it?
A mission statement captures the overarching purpose of a Christian’s life. Scripture emphasizes the importance of knowing and pursuing one’s God-given purpose.
• Colossians 3:23-24: “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.”
This verse highlights the central mission to glorify God in all aspects of life. A mission statement helps articulate how this principle applies personally.
• Matthew 22:37-39: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind… Love your neighbor as yourself.”
A mission statement focuses on how to embody these two great commandments in one’s unique context. Isn’t that what Jesus did…He condensed the 10 commandments into the two greatest.
- ACTION STATEMENT
An action statement outlines how the mission will be accomplished. Scripture calls believers to not only have faith but also to act with intention and diligence. Who builds a building without a blueprint? Isn’t life much more important than a building?
• James 2:17: “Faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.”
Defining how you will live out your mission ensures that your faith translates into tangible works for God’s glory.
• Proverbs 16:3: “Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.”
An action statement is a way of committing one’s plans to the Lord and seeking His guidance in how to fulfill your mission.
- VISION STATEMENT
A vision statement paints a picture of the desired future and serves as motivation to press on. Scripture teaches the importance of seeing and pursuing God’s promises with clarity and hope.
• Habakkuk 2:2-3: “Write down the revelation and make it plain on tablets so that a herald may run with it. For the revelation awaits an appointed time; it speaks of the end and will not prove false.”
Writing a vision statement aligns with this biblical principle of clarity and foresight. It keeps us focused on God’s promises.
• Philippians 3:13-14: “Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”
A vision statement helps keep our eyes on the ultimate prize of fulfilling God’s calling.
I know this is hard, time consuming and honestly, why take the time to define these statements. Let’s not just take the example of corporate America or what another brainiac says. Let define it in scripture.
- Stewardship in Living
Ephesians 5:15-16: “Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.”
Writing a mission, action, and vision statements helps ensure that we live purposefully and make the most of our time and resources. - Clarity and Focus
Proverbs 29:18: “Where there is no vision, the people perish.”
Without a clear sense of mission, action, and vision, it’s easy to drift through life without fulfilling God’s call. - Encouragement to Persevere
Galatians 6:9: “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”
A clear vision keeps us motivated to press on, even when challenges arise.
Here are two examples to get you started.
• Mission Statement: Grounded in Matthew 28:19-20, “To make disciples of all nations, baptizing them and teaching them to obey everything Christ commanded.”
• Action Statement: Rooted in Micah 6:8, “To act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with God.”
• Vision Statement: Inspired by Revelation 21:3-4, “To one day stand before God, having faithfully completed the work He entrusted to me.”
This one is mine personally.
• My Mission Statement
To provide for my family and impart a Godly example of Character, Honor and Love to all I touch.
• My Action Statement
By encouraging myself in God & inspiring those around me by what I say & do.
• My Vision Statement
To leave a Legacy of Faith & Hope that all things are possible when you trust God 1st.
By taking time to define these, Christians can live intentionally, serve effectively,
and fulfill God’s calling with clarity and purpose.
