Your Calling – Is Your Purpose.
How long does it take for us to realize the magnitude of God’s calling on us? Why are we here? What can I do? How many decades does it take to wake up to see our calling? Men have searched, dug, and excavated for years searching for gold, and diamonds and many went bust or died trying. Today it’s striving for success, that retirement golden ticket, but where is our resolve to know God? To know his ways… To seek his direction to realize he is the treasure of all treasures like the man in Matt 13:44 “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant seeking goodly pearls: and having found one pearl of great price, he went and sold all that he had, and bought it”.
When will we wake up to who he is, and really start living a life that looks like Jesus?
I look at King David as a young lad bringing lunch to his brothers at the front of the lines in the stalemate between Israel and Palestine. He hears this giant of a man hurling insults about Israel and their God and David is incensed You know the story. He goes out picks three stones and takes off the head of Goliath. God chose him to be King and through the next tumultuous years became this great general, a true fighting man, who was according to Acts 13:22 “After removing Saul, he made David their king. He testified concerning him: ‘I have found David son of Jesse a man after my own heart; he will do everything I want him to do.‘”
David was indeed, a man called by god, anointed by god, commissioned by god, and did not miss his calling.
I wasn’t called to be a King or legendary warrior, but I was called by God, anointed by god, commissioned by God, and neither did I miss my calling. But if I had to guess, I would say I was a little late to the party. (by my standards) I want to tell you that you too are called, anointed, and commissioned by God. He has a plan for you. He has given you gifts and treasures so you can be the emissary to the King and “a mighty man of valor”. Don’t you too want to “do everything God asks you to do?
This calling is not about what stage you may be in life. It is a calling of love, sacrifice, direction, protection, and fulfillment on both the smallest and largest stages of life, It is about being a man and woman “after God’s own heart”. It is about Loving the lord thy God will all thy heart and loving your neighbor as yourself. It is about a life of serving. I was researching and found this site called God’s Secret Service Agents. GSSA is based on having fun using mission impossible and James Bonds type of themes
joining individuals who actively conduct secret missions/acts of kindness. The goal is to help make the world a better and kinder place to live by periodically conducting anonymous acts of kindness to help others in need.
Here is a quote from their website:
Be the Love & Kindness Needed in Today’s World!
Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to conduct secret random and planned acts of kindness to help restore people’s faith in God and humanity.
Someone decided this would be a fun way of implementing their calling. Many of the most fulfilling, exciting, and fun times I have had in life have been in doing something special for others. Blessing them and then witnessing the joy, relief, or overflowing thankfulness of my giving. And isn’t that true for so many?
Giving is one of the great gifts we can offer people. Our love, support, encouragement, and spreading the love of Jesus is our highest calling. What is your calling? It’s your Purpose… It’s the knowledge of knowing what God created you to do which reflects His standards… His gifts of salvation, forgiveness, and kindness are reflected in a lifestyle driven by a personal mission to live for Christ; To give for Christ. To realize that it is “Christ in us the hope of glory” that is the empowerment that makes giving such a joy and such a strength to us and others. King David and Peter, Paul, Ruth, and all those who God recorded before us were our examples of victories and failures that we might know the treasure of Jesus.
It is never too late to join God’s parade of commissioned soldiers. It’s never too late to give yourself away for the love of Christ and for the benefit of his sheep. “Do you love me Peter? Feed my sheep”. Give to them, lift them up, pray for them, stand with them, and create a family that will one day soon stand and hold you up. It is never too late to start giving the love God gave to you out to others. Let me encourage you this week to up your game in the name and calling of Jesus.
Do this, “that God has asked you to do!”
God of all my days. Casting Crowns
