I Want to Die Empty
A friend told me he had heard a sermon called “I Want to Die Empty.” Those words have haunted me—in a good way—ever since.
Lord, empty me of me, so I can be filled with You.
Jesus emptied Himself, taking the form of a servant and becoming obedient even to death. His surrender calls me to examine my own. Who is directing the life inside me…Jesus or me? (Philippians 2:7–8)
I, too, want to die empty. I don’t want to arrive in heaven carrying anything I was supposed to have given away. It breaks my heart to imagine standing before Jesus with the gifts He entrusted to me still unopened, still ungiven. The encouragement I withheld. The person I never called. The obedience I kept postponing.
Whatever has tarnished my mind and soul, forgive me, Lord.
Wherever I am deceived, show me.
Break my pride and turn me from my selfish ways.
Help me lay aside every sin that keeps me from walking with You.
Forgive me for admiring the fire in others while neglecting my own altar.
For wanting a stage without an altar of prayer.
For wanting to lead without wanting to serve.
Help me present my life as a living sacrifice. (Romans 12:1)
Teach me to love You with every breath.
Send me where You want me to go.
Help me give away every gift for Your glory.
Empty me out completely.
When I lay my head down tonight, I want to know that I gave today what You asked me to give. And if You grant me tomorrow, help me stop making excuses and step forward by faith.
I want to arrive with a heart full of gratitude and hands empty of everything You asked me to share. In Jesus’ name…Amen.

That prayer is the heart behind this next chapter of Fearlessly Courageous.
What began as sharing encouragement is now reaching over 1,000 people across our country and abroad. Our refreshed website is a place to gather more of what God has entrusted to us…and make it easier for you to share with someone who needs hope.
We are organizing an archive of more than 1,000 devotionals around real-life concerns such as faith, marriage, relationship, forgiveness, worship and anger.
Many have also asked about biblical coaching: a private place to be heard and gain perspective, with Scripture as our filter, whether through an occasional conversation or ongoing encouragement.
We are also preparing Leading Men Well and completing a discipleship program to help others live out Jesus’ command to make disciples. We will share these resources as they become ready.
