The Gospel of Remembering!
-The Lords Prophecy –
“I want you to keep remembering. Remember all the blessings. Slow down and stop… and remember how I have been there for you. Remember all the dark times, hard times, I walked with you. even when you didn’t know, I was there. And then your eyes were opened, and you felt my presence, you could see my power. Stop and look back and remember all the blessings.
You have forgotten. We remember birthdays and anniversaries, but forget them in between. I say, remember me daily. Remember, I am all-knowing, all-powerful. When you remember me, you will be quick to call on me. Quick to know that I own everything. Know that I am sovereign. Remember how I love you.
Remember me in the day and the season before you and you will re-discovered the joy of walking with me. Remember the joy of those people I put in your life? So you can cherish them as the gifts I have blessed you with.
Remember my love and do this in remembrance of me.
Remember!”
The Lord has said much about remembering. It has been used 352 times in scripture, with variants it jumps to over 550! The Oxford English Dictionary defines remember as “to retain in, or recall to, the memory; to bear in mind; to recollect.” Remember also means “to think of or to recall the memory of something with some kind of feeling or intention.” Remember can also mean “to have a mind of and mention someone in prayer.” Importantly, remember can mean to commemorate or “to preserve in memory by some solemnity or celebration.”
Psalm 77:11 I will remember the deeds of the Lord; yes,
I will remember your wonders of old.
Acts 20:35 “In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’”
Remember is used often in conjunction with covenants between God and man. The Flood. The Abrahamic covenant. Genesis 12:6-8 Keep the Sabbath day holy. Ex 31:16
We make promises and commitments almost daily with people and family that need to be remembered. Even with a daytimer, I forget. Calendars galore, yet I forget. But God’s word for us is to remember. Be intentional. Make it a daily part of your life and do not use the excuse that you are too busy to remember. Each of us struggles daily with pressures, anxieties of duties and responsibilities and we find ourselves weighed down, burdened, overwhelmed, and uncertain of the future.
He encourages us in John 14:26 “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you”.
Then he warns us in Revelation 2:5 “Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent, and do the works you did at first. If not, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place unless you repent”.
Isaiah 43:25-26 “I am he who blots out your transgressions for my own sake, and I will not remember your sins. Put me in remembrance; let us argue together; set forth your case, that you may be proved right”.
Finally, in Deuteronomy 4:9 He says,
“Only take care, and keep your soul diligently, lest you forget the things that your eyes have seen, and lest they depart from your heart all the days of your life. Make them known to your children and your children’s children”.
When was the last time you thought about this critical word…Remember? Make it a point today to remember God 1st and how he has touched you and turned you around. Remember your spouse from the days of your youth. Love them more today by remembering. Remember your children and reach out and tell them how much you care and how God loves them. Let’s start making remembering a vital part of our schedules. And the greatest of these is love!
