The Year of the Open Door
Open doors. What does that mean to you spiritually?.. Which one do we take? It seems we have all opened many a door that didn’t take us where we would have thought. We may have asked for God’s blessing but may have also left him on the side as you did it your way. It doesn’t take long to get sick of choosing the wrong doors, making foolish mistakes, or just having things not work out. It seems you never can catch a break and you are hungry for an open door… for another chance for a healthy windfall. It could be in finances, a special relationship, or health, and here we are beginning a new year and new doors of opportunity. Each year there always are. But when you’ve made too many mistakes, or had too many things go wrong, we can sometimes lose our faith in ourselves and our faith in God. So we seem almost relieved that we are somewhat comfortable and let’s just play it safe and not take any more chances this year. But then again, where is God in my now? Where is God in my immediate future?
Do we really think the safest place to be is the middle of the road?
What have I learned from my past failures or from going through the wrong doors? Was there something God wanted me to learn from them to be ready for an open door of his choosing? It takes faith and courage to walk through a door that God is holding open for us,
even if we’re not exactly sure of what’s on the other side.
Hebrews 11:6 says: “And without faith, it is impossible to please him, for he who comes to God must believe that he is and that he is a rewarder of those who seek him.”
Many times an “open door” from God allows our faith to be stretched and strengthened.
If you have been believing for a deeper walk with God. Believing to be used more by God. It will take faith to step out.
But, can I be blunt, is it for you or for what you can give away? Is this for some gain of recognition or restitution, or is yours a gift to bless others? That may be your first indication of whether this Open Door is a God door.
Number one: It will never contradict God’s word and will bring him honor and Glory.
2. It should be confirmed through others. Who are you walking with? Jesus sent his disciples out in two’s for a reason. You need them and they need you to stay the course and stay headed through the narrow gate and open door spoken of in Matt 7:13 In Matthew 18:15-16, Jesus said “But if they will not listen, take one or two others along, so that ‘every matter may be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses’.” That applies completely to you seeking the wisdom and counsel of others regarding the door you think God has called you to. You need someone non-compromising on your team.
I am certain when I say, that it will not come without its challenges, hiccups, and speed bumps. There will be testing and even potential setbacks. These things typically don’t always go the way you want them to in every sense. You will need faith, courage, and the arm of a fellow sojourner to hold onto your faith and vision.
3. Most importantly it will require you to depend on God. If it is a door that God has opened for you to enlarge the territory of your tent…(Is 54:10) You must depend on God. If He is the cornerstone of your hope and your success, then it is critical that you walk like that is the truth… talk like that, and believe that all things are possible for those who love him and keep him on the throne of your daily living. If you do these things, you will be sure that he is the guiding light that illuminates your way. You can be assured that he will not open a door that would require
personal compromise or disobedience for you to enter and succeed.
This is the year of the open door. As much as these journeys may be incredibly gratifying and rewarding, they are truly not about us. When we give our lives away the reward is beyond our imagination.
I believe it is where we find heaven…on earth.
