From the Upper Room to America: A Prophetic Call
The Presence, the Promise, the Preparation

This past Sunday, I visited one of the Grace Family Church campuses by the Suncoast for the first time. During worship, Pastor Matt invited us into an intimate time of prayer and reflection. It was deeply movingโ€”you could feel the Spirit of God moving among the people.

The Lord shared a prophetic word that I believe will encourage you:

“Canโ€™t you see it? I am doing a new thing. A refreshing spirit is being poured out on America. Wonโ€™t you enter in? The pathway in is only by faith. Look up to where your hope comes from.
Nothing is impossible for Me. Grab hold of MY faith, My truth, and step out into the impossible. Everything is possible. Close your eyes and see My vision. I will empower you. I will open the doorโ€”you donโ€™t have to push. Wait on Me and My timing.
Prepare yourself so you are ready. Prepare yourself for your calling. I am bringing a freshness and an anointing that will be your light and your strength. Prepare yourself.”

That word stirred something in me. It made me ask: What does preparing really look like?
Is it quiet? Silence? Focus? Waiting? Is it discovering peace in the eye of the storm?
Is it fixing our eyes on Him instead of the problem?

His word reminded me of Pentecost. Jesus had called His followers to wait in the upper room. Can you imagine how difficult that must have been? A mix of grief, fear, confusion, and doubt. The Scriptures say they were hiding behind locked doors โ€œfor fear of the Jewsโ€ (John 20:19). Their Messiah, whom they had given everything to follow, had just been publicly crucified.
Their dreams of a triumphant Savior were shattered.

On top of that, they carried the weight of failure and regret. Some had fled. Some denied Him. The upper room must have been filled with emotional turmoil. Imagine being packed into that small space with 120 others, all feeling every possible emotionโ€”afraid, uncertain, overwhelmed.
Waiting forโ€ฆ what? Another promise?

Iโ€™ve stood in that room. In 1987, I was there. I sang Don Franciscoโ€™s songโ€œHeโ€™s Aliveโ€ a cappella. It overwhelmed me. The room isnโ€™t very large for that many people.

Yet in that space, they came together. The Bible says they were โ€œunited in prayer,โ€ devoted to prayer, the teaching of the apostles, and breaking bread together. They were seeking guidance, courage, and direction for their lives as a community.

That last part of the prophetic word keeps echoing in me:

โ€œWait on Me and My timing. Prepare yourself so you are ready. Prepare yourself for your calling. I am bringing a freshness and an anointing that will be your light and strength. Prepare yourself.โ€

Over and overโ€”Prepare yourself.

Weโ€™ve just come out of Lentโ€”Easter and the Resurrection.
But what happened in you during that season?
What did the Holy Spirit whisper?
Did He fall on you?
And if so, for what purpose?

Prepare Yourself.
The upper room was a place of spiritual preparation, of gathering as one in the face of overwhelming odds, of waiting for empowerment. It mirrors the call in this prophecy.

Something is happening in America right now. No matter your political affiliation, you must see itโ€”there is a spiritual unfolding taking place. The question is: What are you prepared to do about it?
What is your part in this new anointing?ย  What are your words saying?

The upper room was where loving Jesus became their highest priority.
Where hearing from the Holy Spirit became their sole focus.
Where serving Him with undivided hearts became their only desire.
Where they prepared themselves for the power of the Holy Spirit.
Where they surrendered everything that wasnโ€™t Jesus.

As the prophecy says:

โ€œCanโ€™t you see it? I am doing a new thing. A refreshing spirit is being poured out on America. Wonโ€™t you enter in? The pathway in is only by faith. Look up to where your hope comes from. Nothing is impossible for Me. Grab hold of My faith, My truth, and step out into the impossibleโ€ฆโ€

Whether you’re in a season of active preparation or in a time of waiting, the upper room is more than a physical place. Itโ€™s the presence of Jesus. It’s a place of communion, honesty, surrenderโ€”no masks, no pretense.

In the upper room, you meet Him just as you are. He accepts you just as you are!

There, as you let go of everything else, you will encounter the love, empowerment, and forgiveness of God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

He fell on them, and He filled themโ€”with trust, faith, boldness, wisdom, and authority to be His witnesses.

The upper room wasnโ€™t the destinationโ€”it was the doorway.

Just as peace is not a place, but a Personโ€”so too, the upper room is His Presence.ย  Itโ€™s Jesus.
