Not Just Hanging On, But Pressing In
I write this today targeting the brothers I share Monday night with. Our Courageous Men’s group. But I know I have many female followers to whom this applies equally. Every person, man or women, come to their small group or bible study for a reason. Some of us know we’ve been slipping—we feel distant from God and just want to get closer again. Some came for the fellowship—because we need others who think like us, who are pursuing faith, and who could one day be true friends. Some are longing for accountability—because we know trying to do this on our own hasn’t been working.
And some of us are here to lead, to help guide the way, and give back.
But no matter why we came, God has one purpose for all of us: to glorify Him by making Jesus Lord over every part of our lives.
I have always tried to be clear…NEVER… take my word for anything.
You and I need to be grounded in Scripture or nothing at all.
“So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.” (1 Corinthians 10:31)
- “As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.” (Proverbs 27:17)
- “Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong. Let all that you do be done in love.” (1 Corinthians 16:13–14)
These verses remind us that following Christ isn’t about just “hanging on”—it’s about growing, sharpening one another, and standing firm in faith together. I also know that we go through seasons of overwhelming pressures, setbacks, and what appear to be devastating earthquakes in different areas of living. Maybe you’re in a desert, where you just aren’t feeling it.
Reflection
So why are we here? At a table, a study or just reading along with me this morning.
- To Glorify God — Our highest purpose is to point our lives back to Him in everything.
- To Grow in Christ — God doesn’t want us stuck in old patterns. He calls us to transformation.
- To Stand Together — Iron sharpens iron. Alone we are weak, but together in Christ we are strong. So STOP, walking alone. Be more transparent and open-hearted about sharing what you’re walking through.
- To Lead Our Families Well — Our wives, children, and communities need men and women who live under Christ’s lordship.
- To Multiply Disciples — We are called not just to survive, but to help others know Christ, too.
What is Your Motivation?
Some of you came just trying to hang on for dear life. But hear this: God has more for you. You weren’t made to just survive—you were made to grow, to fight the good fight, and to stand as children of God… men and women of purpose.
Your little group, in person or online, is not just a meeting. It’s a training ground. It’s where we sharpen one another, encourage one another, and hold each other accountable. It’s where we remind each other that we are not alone in this walk.
So today, let’s commit:
- To invest in one another (Hebrews 10:24–25). Pray for each other.
- To be honest about our struggles (James 5:16). Open up, stop standing alone.
- To encourage one another toward love and good deeds. Sometimes just listening is a vital medicine we all need. Dare to trust again.
- To make Jesus Lord of all—our hearts, our homes, our work, and our friendships.
You aren’t reading this today by accident. God brought you here with a purpose. Let’s not waste it. Let’s be men and women of God who live with clarity, who pursue Christ with passion, and who stand together as brothers and sisters in Christ.
Our families need it. Our church needs it. The world needs it. And above all, God deserves it. Ask Jesus, for more faith, more courage, and to be more obedient to His faithful calling. He pours out an overflowing amount of Grace every morning. Go for it!
