What Does Prayer Mean to You? Your Power is in the Covenants of God.

We go off to college or a trade school to learn a specialty. To study and become an expert in something that we can rely on to make a living and build a future upon. Many can gain this experience hands-on without college but in much the same way it takes tutorage, study, and many months and years of hard labor to achieve that end. Why is that different with God? Sure we can buy into the common sense of it but what about the living practicality of it?
So bluntly, other than the go-to answers we pick up as Christians. What is Prayer really? What is its power beyond just talking to God? Yes, it is communing with God. It is an open line of communication with God. But it is much more. It is a power God has given to all his children.
Would you answer this? What are your covenant rights before God?
Exactly who are you to God? What is our spiritual history and what authority have we learned from it? There are a number of covenants in the Bible, but let's look at two to understand the story of the Bible and God's redemptive plan.
Abrahamic covenant: This is an unconditional covenant found in Genesis 12:1–3 God sought out Abraham to be in a relationship with him. (Just like the Holy Spirit is pursuing you). He promises that Abraham is going to be a great nation, that he is going to be given a land, a place to live, and that through Him, all of the nations will be blessed.
The new covenant is the ultimate solution to human rebellion. Jeremiah 31:33, NIV. "This is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel after that time," declares the Lord. "I will put My law in their minds and write it on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be My people."
The new covenant comes through the death of Jesus Christ. Luke 22:20, NIV. "In the same way, after the supper He took the cup, saying, 'This cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is poured out for you."
The new covenant means we can go directly to God through Christ. 7:22, NIV. "Because of this oath, Jesus has become the guarantee of a better covenant."
Look at the lineage we come from. “Jesus the guarantee of a better covenant”. Hebrew 4:16 Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.”
Prayer is more than a conversation and pleas for God to intervene. Prayer is actually asserting earthly permission for heavenly interference. Our prayers, in the name of Jesus, give heaven authorization to intervene in our lives. That is why its essential to study the Word of God and know the rights He has given to his children to enter the throne room of grace crying out Abba Father. “Daddy”
He has granted each of his children rights by sonship. When we are being held by an evil/illegitimate force in our lives, cry out to God! Appeal to God on your covenant rights. God has a legal obligation to respond to his child because you have a legitimate agreement with him found in his word. Don’t take my word. Take His. Study his word and pray it back to God.
Remember Jesus’ prayer “Not my will but thine be done”. His wisdom and desire to bless you will ensure the answer comes in his plan to bless and cover you. Trust in that. Rest in that.
Be encouraged for He is able. He is willing and He loves you more than you love your own children. Lean on the lord and not your own understanding.
