God agreed to spare Sodom for 10 righteous people!
Would you be one of those ten? He said he would spare two cities for just 10 righteous people. Gen 18: 18-28 What does that say to you? It is almost haunting to me. It’s this call from the ocean deep… the power and depth of the prayer warrior. The intercessor who stood their spiritual ground although it seems an entire city opposes them. And they do!
“When you have done all else stand”. Eph 6:13 How hard is that when others shout down your supposed intolerance when you hold up Christ the one true God in the face of not leaving room for any other of the world’s religions? Who are you to not be inclusive to so many genuine people who believe differently? And he said, “stand back and see the salvation of the Lord”. Exodus 13:13
But Abraham could not find even 10.
Today our societies are flooded with proud corruption. Oh, what they flaunt in our faces as we grow cold and start getting used to the new normal and take our children in tow. Christians often wonder what 1 or 10 can do to change the tide.
In Genesis 19:27–28, Abraham turned and saw the city ablaze. Abraham had gone back to save his nephew Lot. He had interceded for Lot. Out of those two cities, we know of only one who was saved.
Genesis tells us a great deal of how God saved Lot. Angels went to the city and commanded him to flee with those of his house. And even when he lingered, they physically grabbed him and his family by the hand and “brought him out” for “the compassion of the Lord was upon him” Genesis 19:16 his story is a lasting example, reminding us that even while unholy cities go down in flames and Sin, the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from trials. 2 Peter 2:9
Genesis 19:29 “so it was that when God destroyed the cities of the valley, God remembered Abraham and delivered Lot when in his sovereignness overthrew the cities in which Lot had lived.”
The city fell for lack of 10 to follow the Lord, but the righteous man was spared, along with this little town that he took refuge in, Zoar.
God heard the prayers of one faithful intercessor, Abraham.
It is just another example of how one man and his prayers can move God. God looks upon the heart. I believe it’s time that we turn our hearts towards home in a bigger way. To be more intentional, more dedicated, more humble, more repentant for living life too much our way. As we take every thought captive to obey Christ, we must not forget to obey him ourselves. How easy is it to hate other men’s sins more than our own?
The revival of the nation, if God is pleased to grant it, begins in the church. And it will begin with one man looking for 10 righteous to save his city. 1 Peter 4:17
for the past 2000 years, it has been
“the time for judgment will begin at the household of God.”
Your prayers do make a difference. The Christian church, even when abused or ignored, is the backbone of any land. Our Land! God rules the world in consideration of their good, even when their good includes the refining fires of persecution (1 Peter 1:6 – 7)
His curses and blessings, and his ways along with his mysterious acts of Providence, all serve his own glory and the eternal benefit of his people. Romans 8:28
Are you that Intercessor? Perhaps you are Lot, one of the righteous? Or perhaps you are on the fringe, just watching…or you have grown cold and aloof and need to rededicate your life.
DO IT NOW!
Would you make your one into 3 or 4 this week and pray with your family and ask God to strengthen us ALL in prayer? To ask the Holy Spirit to give you 9 more to join with you to pray for a litany of reasons. Reach out, be intentional, love them into a prayer circle for we know that 10 righteous can save a city and that God will go after that one, LOT, to save him and his family. It took just one intercessor. Abraham.
