The Gift of Prophetic Encouragement
1 Corinthians 14:3-5 "On the other hand, the one who prophesies speaks to people for their upbuilding and encouragement and consolation. 4 The one who speaks in a tongue builds up himself, but the one who prophesies builds up the church. 5 Now I want you all to speak in tongues, but even more to prophesy. The one who prophesies is greater than the one who speaks in tongues, unless someone interprets, so that the church may be built up."
Gifts come in all shapes and sizes. Christmas, birthdays, and then there are spiritual gifts…Often misunderstood, not often talked about, which makes them dusty from sitting on a shelf. Out of sight…out of mind.
But gifts can change our lives dramatically. Like someone pulling the wheel, avoiding a massive accident. Or giving or receiving CPR or being rescued by a stranger in a foreboding place.
The prophetic gift of encouragement is something Jesus walked in and so should we. God longs for his people to know his voice. But we must understand 1st what it is.
God longs for his people to know His voice. Prayer and answered prayer. He offers guidance by the leading of the Holy Spirit, giving us wisdom when we need it. We receive encouragement from God’s word and from others when we are in trouble.
Why? because he loves it. He wants to protect us…even from ourselves. He wants to encourage and lift us up during the hard and dry times of our lives. That’s what Jesus did, and Moses, Joshua, Paul and so many of our forefathers.
God knows we need encouragement. We all get discouraged and face hard situations and we need, not worldly wisdom and remedies but God‘s wisdom and direction. God gave all his children gifts to be that voice to a lost and dying world. God longs for his people to use the gifts he has given them
This gift of prophetic encouragement is something every follower of Christ can give to others in every area of everyday life. As Christians and ambassadors, God desires us to be encouragers, to be his light, every day to others and to build up the body of Christ.
Being a prophetic encourager is simply about hearing God and speaking his words into the ordinary lives of those around us – It means praying and asking God to open your eyes to see and ears to hear. Isn’t that what you’ve always wanted?
On Monday we start a new campus season of our Courageous men’s group at 7 PM. We will be seeing old familiar faces and many new men will come for many reasons. They need more of God in their life. They have too few Christian friends or none at all. They are lonely or hurting but one thing is certain… they all need encouragement. God wants to use you if you are open to learning and being open to his Holy Spirit.
