Man Camp Recap — Who’s in your corner?
Fact: the quality of your life is based on the quality of the people in your life. It’s past time to evaluate your friendships. Let’s take a look at a few who, without their costume, might be someone you know.
Batman: He’s always wearing a mask. Who is he?
Joker: I think each of us has one of these in our life. They’re always suggesting you do something outlandish and half of the time they get you to do it.
Wolverine: Unpredictable. Two different people. You’re not sure if the happy one or the angry one is going to show up.
Mr. freeze: Cold. He’s always cooling things down. He puts a damper on a high. He seems to freeze what should be a happy time.
Superman: We hate him. He never has to work out yet he always looks the same. I’m jealous. My problem is I keep waiting for him to fail. 🙂
Hulk: He’s really a nice guy until his eyes turn green and then he is this totally another person. The anger becomes uncontrollable.
Doctor Strange? Are they weird or what? You’re reading what book? You believe in what philosophy? Who is this guy?
Yes I know we have good people in our lives too.
Show me your friends and I’ll show you your future.
I could spend a lot of time breaking this one down. But if you look into the rearview mirror, I think you can see exactly what I’m talking about.
It’s time for many of us to press reset on our community. You know, when everything else fails we need a reboot. Our friends are not just there for fun. Our Ego is not our Amigo! Proverbs 13:20 Walk with the wise and you become what? WISE. But the other is the companion of fools. 1 Corinthians 15:33 Bad company corrupts. 2 Corinthians 6–14 don’t be yoked together with people of a different faith. People of a different character. People with a different fun set. People with a different mouth.
An unequally yoked team has one stronger ox and one weaker, or one taller and one shorter. When they are unequally yoked, they cannot perform the task set before them. Instead of working together, they are at odds with one another. For humans, it means sharing the same set of beliefs and values, regardless of whether our mamas and papas raised us in a Church or not.
Put another way Light cannot live with darkness. Darkness is uncomfortable with light. You can run that parallel to people. The darkness in others, their character, their language, their lifestyle will choke off the faith of a believer. When they walk alongside you they’re always pulling in a different direction. Some people who are reading this need to do
a complete reboot on the five friends that are closest to them.
It’s like so many people that I know, they have 1 foot in darkness and 1 foot in the church and they wonder why they’re miserable in their life.
How do you find the right friends?
If a friend has an issue. Then you should have an issue. Real friends stand together for each other. There’s a story in Mark 2:1–12. These four men lowered a paralytic through the roof where Jesus was speaking.
This man made 2 crucial decisions. The crippled man has no feeling in his legs but he had four good friends with 8 good legs between them. He had no strength on his own. He had nothing. But he was brought to the right Savior, by the right friends. He picked friends who would challenge him.
He could’ve easily taken a different mindset because of some of his issues. Nobody gets me. I will always be like this. I will never walk. I am a loser. so many become victims of society.
Can I draw some knowledge from my own life? Somewhere along the way, this paralytic opened up his life to some other men. Friends who said, I won’t enable you. I believe you can be more. I believe that you can be empowered and healed by Jesus Christ.
We can’t allow ourselves to enable wrong thoughts in ourselves or our friends. Tithing? I’m not sure about that. Wrong friend! I’m not sure you married the right person. Wrong friend! I think I would like to go to church. No, let’s go fishing. Wrong friend! But there are those who will empower you. How? By hanging with men of light. Men of character. Men pushing for more of God in their lives.
Can you tell me, who is speaking God into your life?
Who is in your corner? Who do you go to when you’re confused? Who do you lean on when you just can’t stand on your own and can’t even seem to think clearly? I am telling you when you inspect the closest five people in your life. You will see a composite of your own life. We don’t have to go to the cliff and see our demise before we choose the light.
