Man Camp Recap — Who’s in your corner II?
He picked friends stronger than him.
It takes a strong man to say you’re stronger than me. I need a friend like you in my life. Each of us has a master’s degree in some area, it may be hard knocks. We are not told, but the cripple man didn’t complain, he rather found four men with two good legs each. I think the message is clear. Develop friends who are stronger than you.
Get friends who are smarter than you. Good friends who show God’s fruit. God‘s peace and wisdom. It takes a secure person to admit weakness or one broken from making so many mistakes.
Might you be getting married? He got someone with a successful one and asked for advice.
Do you have an anger problem? It won’t be hard to find someone who has worked through that.
Or we can stay alone and stay broken in our own darkness. The bottom line is we need to be empowered by the light of Christ. And to not continue to enable wrong thoughts or wrong thinking in ourselves or in others.
Growing up I never told my parents what to do.
Today it seems they’re letting children figure out who they want to be.
Children!
The truth is I don’t really care about being politically correct. I am too old to cater to wrong thinking. We are not called to enable bad thinking or wrong thinking, but instead, point them to the truth and the light of God. Point those kids to the wisdom of Jesus, who said learn from me.
Pick friends that are full of faith
I’m not talking about someone who points you to a podcast or a book but rather one who will bring you to Jesus. Mark 2:5 “when Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralyzed man, son, your sins are forgiven. And he got up and walked out in full view of them all”.
This broken paralytic also saw friends and their faith. Each of us must find the right friends too. We won’t find them in Hooters or at 2 AM drinking in some bar. Maybe it’s not your faith today but maybe it’s their faith that you can hold onto until yours grow stronger. Real friends walk with Jesus and will walk you to Jesus. Jesus didn’t deal with the fruit, that he was crippled, he dealt with the root. He said, you sins are forgiven, rise up and walk!
Who is in your corner? Who is you cut man? Do you remember the great wrestling tag teams of old? You have this guy out there being beat to a pulp by the other tag team. They are cheating. Kicking him, gouging, and he is trying to crawl to your corner to get help but they drag him back and beat him senseless. But somehow with his last ounce of strength, he is able to just barely touch his tag team partner… and to the rescue, he attacks and beats both of the opponents. It took just one touch and you were saved. I know, It almost looked fake…but it was real. 😊
Those of you alone… Jesus is that tag team partner of yours. He is the GOAT…The Greatest of All Time! He is waiting for you to get to his corner so he can save you. Pray to God that he will help you find friends who will walk with you. (You will find them in a men’s group, a bible study, or in church). Jesus wants to touch you and guide you along the peaceful waters. He is available right now to lift you up. Lord show me your truth. Show me the light of eternity. Touch me today. Help me to be courageous and reach out and change my circle of friends and persevere in finding men of faith and vision for Christ. Help me be real and vulnerable to these men of like minds around me.
