Accept me as I am or leave me alone.
Times Change! Formula’s Change! We Change! Change is typically difficult. Truth, Truth, Truth. When our kids were infants, they were fed a nutrients formula for their growth. It was, in effect, a substitute for mothers’ milk. In a short time, we changed their formula to something more substantial and then changed again to soft solid foods. They spit some of it out and on special occasions, they spit up on you. Sometimes a change didn’t go well. It seems the moment we aren’t paying close attention, we can see something is different, something is wrong. They had a reaction and that formula had to be changed for their health. We often sought out our pediatricians for their wisdom and direction to feed them the right recipe for their still-developing bodies.
Are we so different as adults? Change is clamoring all around us. Relationships, work, marriage, culture…me. We are all evolving and changing, but we don’t have this parental figure watching our every move anymore. We have matured and do it all ourselves, and we have too often, settled into this attitude that, for the most part, who I am… I Am. We get this attitude that we are who we are! This is me, take it or leave it. This is my personality…these are my pet peeves…yes, I do this and this, but take me or leave me, it’s just the way I am.
It’s a lie straight from the pits of hell. Our flesh… the comfortable side of living…habits that have built up strongholds of justification around our thinking have become fortified. If you want the abundant life and peace that Jesus promised, you must let his Spirit capture the stronghold up there!
Nor only is our conscious mind the target:
Proverbs 23:7 says, “For as he thinks in his heart, so is he.”
In Matt 12:34-35, Yeshua said, For out of the overflow of the heart, the mouth speaks. The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him.
So exactly who or what is feeding you? People, social media, TV???
We hear this consistent lie from satan that you are good the way you are and anyone that wants to question your thinking of your behavior is disrespecting you. (Not part of the inclusive-minded majority in the world around you today.) The truth is when we think a little deeper, we can see how our thinking has changed over the years. We have changed just like those infants did over time. The truth is without a mentor or sage to help guide us, it takes us so much longer on our own to see the truth of God’s word. God’s ways.
Hopefully, our parents or a Godly family member had that role when we were small and we grew exponentially during those years but once we reach 18 or so we take on much of that learning capacity on our own or we just become sponges to our college professors. We take on their opinions as truths of the universe. People in our circle of living pour into our minds “their stuff” their beliefs, their truth using everything but God’s standard of truth. And strongholds develop into a belief and life of their own. You are changing again. But with what basis?. Whose truth?
Personally, I don’t want to change under the light of the truth of just anyone, even a Harvard professor or some student friend who I think is smarter than me. I believe there can be no other basis for truth other than the Bible. If I am going to change I need to run the concepts that seek to influence me through the collider of God’s word. Someone must teach us that there is a spirit realm and we can only communicate in that realm…in the spirit. God must change us from one into the other. (It’s why he came.)
John 17: 17 Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth.” 2 Corinthians 6:17, NIV: “Therefore, ‘Come out from them and be separate, says the Lord. Touch no unclean thing, and I will receive you. … 2 Corinthians 6:17, NLT: “Therefore, come out from among unbelievers, and separate yourselves from them, says the LORD. Don’t touch their filthy things, and I will welcome you.”
Our words build us up or tear us down. The tongue brings both life and death. Those wrong words build up fortifications around your mind and heart keeping you from the change to see God’s light at a deeper level. The question isn’t – Is there a God? It is about inviting Jesus into your life as your new Lord and Savior, to throw out the old and put on the new trappings of Freedom Jesus Christ himself.
It begins with a simple repentant prayer. God forgive me! Open up my heart and eyes to see your truth and change me. Help me to read your words so I can change into the person you have called me to be. Help me to change the right way.
