Where is Jesus on your Christmas list?

It’s hard to believe they were just a few days from Christmas. The holidays have come and they are about to be gone. But there is still time to slow down, smell the roses, enjoy the little things that are happening around you that we don’t see because we’re so busy. This is the season centered around family, joy, giving, and most importantly – Jesus. Here are just a few ideas to prepare your heart for Christmas

1. Quiet time: take a moment and reflect on the so many things that you’re thankful for. Don’t let this time get away through all of the hecticness of finding the right present for someone and you forget to give praise and glory to the reason for the season.

2. Spend time together.
Do lunch, or a coffee but spend a little bit of time with a few people during this holiday time. Say no to some of the activities and parties so that you can focus on your family instead. We get so busy with the busy at work too often not present in the moment that we are together with our loved ones. Making a new memory that can last a lifetime takes a little intentionality.
3. Sing: it may sound silly but some of the best times just sitting around with a few friends or family and singing your favorite Christmas songs out loud. But pay special attention to the words, letting your thankfulness to God for his incredible gifts permeate your being. Sing those traditional carols as worship songs to the Lord.

4. Celebrate Jesus: He came into our world in the humblest form – a small helpless baby. His birth is the greatest gift that the world will ever receive. Embrace the joy, ask God to help you know the joy of this season for Christ’s sake.

5. Listen to people: Practice the disappearing art of listening to others as you gather with family and friends. Over dinner, opening presents, sitting around, and catching up with those you haven’t seen in a while. Pay attention to what they’re saying rather than thinking about how you will respond. Be present. It’s one of the best ways to show your loved ones that you care for them.

It is all about focus and we can’t do that juggling 5 balls in the air at once. Put a couple on the shelf…make a conscious decision to spend time with Christ and take in the peace and love he freely gives. I pray you make it a Merry Christmas.
