How Satan Thwarts our Plans for a New Year – How Witchcraft Works!
In the truest sense, there is no power in the universe except that which comes from God. God is the sole creator: He is the prime mover of all creation. John tells us that all things come into being through him and apart from him nothing exists. Hebrews tells us that, even now, the Lord is upholding and maintaining and guiding, and propelling the universe by his mighty word of power. Hebrews 1:3 Yet, we are not robots. He allows us freedom of choice. If we obey him, our lives move forward along the stream of his blessings. Here, he orchestrates “all things to work for our good”. Or if we turn away from him, we eventually position ourselves under the weight of his judgment. As such, we leave ourselves indefensible against evil.
The Bible describes our freedom as a choice between God’s blessing or his curse. If we walk in obedience, we actually become a blessing. However, if we rebel against him, our existence is under his wrath and our lives are accursed.
“The curse of the Lord is on the house of the wicked, but he blesses the dwelling of the righteous”. Proverbs 3:33
Perhaps it is difficult for us to imagine our loving father cursing anyone. Yet, God’s curse upon evil is motivated by his love, and he uses his judgment to prod the wicked towards righteousness and peace.
God‘s “wrath, his “judgment or “sentence against sin,” and his “curse” are all interchangeable terms. “His wrath abides on all ungodliness and unrighteousness”. Romans 1:18 before we were saved we “walked…according to the prince of the power of the air… of the spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience…By nature we were, children of wrath
even as the rest of the world”. Ephesians 2:2–3
Please understand that God‘s wrath can be as broad and as obvious as the earth deluged by the great flood or It can be as elementary as the consequences of our own selfishness. It is our heart’s attitude that draws us to God‘s blessing or his curse. If we love his blessing, we become a blessing to others. If we harden our hearts in rebellion, we inherit his wrath. As it is written:
Psalm 109: 17–18 “he also loved cursing, So it came to him, and he did not delight in blessing, so it was far from him. But he clothed himself with cursing as his garment, and it entered into his body like water, and like oil onto his bones.” Psalm 109 commentary: “Retaliation, not for private revenge, but as a measure of public justice, is demanded by the Psalmist and deserved by the crime. Surely the malicious man cannot complain if he is judged by his own rule, and has his corn measured with his own bushel.” (Spurgeon)
Satan: the master manipulator
In order to apply the power of covenant prayer to the effects of witchcraft, it is important to know how witchcraft functions.
The devil has no power to originate anything; he can only manipulate what already is under the judgment or wrath of God. All sin is under God’s curse and whatever is under God’s curse is accessible to evil spirits.
Christians are not exempt from this, if we sow to the flesh we will reap corruption. Paul says for he who does wrong will receive the consequences of the wrong what he has done and that without partiality. Colossians 3:25. In Matthew 18:34–35 he uses the example of turning over a man to the torturers because he refused to extend mercy to others after receiving mercy himself.
Understand, that the Lord does not have to personally “hand” someone over to tortures” Sin carries it own punishment. Even sin in a Christian’s heart will eventually reap corruption and make us vulnerable to evil spirits if we fail to repent and walk humbly with our God.
God’s greatest blessing abides upon the nature of Christ. Where-ever we are walking as Jesus walked, in love and purity of heart, we are enriched and protected by God‘s blessing. Even the desire to walk like Christ draws the fathers blessing, for such a soul is quick to repent; its humility draws grace from God.
Sin is the landing strip in a person’s soul upon which a curse can fall. Just as death entered the world, through sin, Romans 5:12, so death cannot enter where there is no sin.
That’s the key to walking free from the effects of witchcraft is to walk in obedience to God and under the shelter of his blessing. It is here that we find god’s antidote for evil. Satan cannot curse what God has blessed.
So as we prepare for a New Year, we must prepare ourselves. We must self-assess our year and our life journey under the light of His Almighty Word. Broken and poured out is what we need to be before a holy and righteous God. Repent for those areas of failure. Humble yourself before God’s righteousness and mercy and you will see the stronghold of Satan disappear in your life and his influence and curses over your life dissipated.
