What is the Mind of Christ
Look at Paul’s words to the Philippines: "let nothing be done through vain glory but in lowliness of mind, let each esteem others better than themselves.”
Phil 2:3
Listen to the master himself, the meek and lowly Lamb of God,
"learn of me, for I am meek and lowly of heart". Matt 11:29
Paul reinforces what he has written by adding,
"let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus".
The master emptied himself, taking the form of a servant, becoming obedient even unto death, The self-emptying of His heavenly glory. Taking on the form of a servant during all of his earthly life. And then he humbled himself to the death of the cross. This was the mind of Christ.
Our salvation is rooted in this: it is in participation of this that salvation exists;
It is in the spirit and practice of a life like this, that Christ will be magnified in our hearts sanctified, and the true witness given that we have been with Jesus.
It is from this attitude that we derive our strength to diligently keep, the unity of the spirit in the bond of peace. It is not what we know, or think, or speak concerning the beauty of love in the unity of the body in the power of the Holy Spirit that proves the true Christian life. It is in the meekness and loneliness of Christ's daily relationships with our fellow Christians,
even when they are strained or a disappointment to us.
We are to show our willingness to sacrifice anything to maintain the unity of the spirit and to maintain the bond of love.
Jesus's standard service is a willingness to be a servant of all.
It will not be an easy path but Christ came from heaven to bring humility back to this earth to work it out in our hearts.
Do you often see in the teaching and preaching today, that this lowliness and meekness of Christ is holding its place as it does in the word of God?
I don't think so.
There needs to be more of a concerted endeavor in the church to maintain the standards of Christian living and to keep the unity of the spirit from being disturbed by pride or self.
I pray that it would be in every prayer and in every active commitment and that it's the first thing we ask of God,…to have a heart humbled and brought low by his infinite love and yielded to his Holy Spirit to work out in us and in his body around us, the blessed likeness of Jesus our Lord.
With the Holy Spirit's help, it can become the undercurrent
in the habit of a life committed to God.
So as we spend some time studying the work of the Holy Spirit let us not forget to link the thought of Christ-like lowliness with him and his power. It was in the power of the spirit of Christ that led to His humbling himself upon the cross as a sacrifice to God. And it will only be as we claim and receive and fully yield ourselves to the life of the spirit, that the meekness and lowliness of our Lord can be found in us. That is the Mind of Christ.
