Don’t let your wait keep you from believing
May I suggest you spend a little time in Psalm 139 today? I don’t know where your at or what you’re facing or how tired you are waiting on the lord. But God knows what he’s doing. Of course, while you’re waiting for him, he is waiting for you. ME! What is it he wants you to see, or do, or an area you need growth in? The truth is. His ways are so far above ours. Have confidence that he loves you…That he won’t give you more than you can handle and that he has a serious plan for you. Please don’t let your wait keep you from believing that God’s goodness. is upon your life
Psalm 139:6 -7 “ Such knowledge is too wonderful for me,
too lofty for me to attain.
7 Where can I go from your Spirit?
Where can I flee from your presence?
Have you ever looked up at the sky on a really dark night and felt the stars so close that you could almost touch them?. And you felt for an instance how small you were in this universe.
I can only imagine that David had many nights, staring up at the same stars, overwhelmed by the presence of God, and that God would even consider us but instead calls us sons and daughters.
David was overwhelmed by the Lord’s omniscience. (Aam-ni-shns) Such knowledge was beyond his comprehension. He said it was too wonderful, too extraordinary and completely surpassing one’s ability to grasp.
Honestly, I’ve spent a little time trying to wrap my head around the greatness of God. I had a friend just come back from a meditation week with 1900 other people, learning how to meditate… David as a simple shepherd boy, laid awake, trying to digest and comprehend…a God who cares for him! Psalm 139 reflects David’s prayerful meditation on God’s Omnipresence and omniscience.
Omnipresence means God is everywhere, Omniscience (Aam-ni-shns) means that God is all-knowing. His knowledge is without limit.
And it gets even harder…simultaneously.
When was the last time you meditated on those two facts? (Try it!)
The knowledge of God more than directs and affects our reactions, especially in times of injustice, hardship, or pain. It literally becomes the filter for the air that we breathe, the thoughts that grow, and the purpose that rises up within each of us.
Psalm 139 describes the journey that David is on, there’s is good and bad, there is challenging and unbelievable, but still, he presses forward in God.
I love that David is alive and relatable. I get the sense he spends days and months meditating on the essence of who God is, and in the process describes it as unattainable. What is further amazing, he is not discouraged, but he is ever reaching… ever believing… ever loving God all the more in the process!
What a journey and what an example for us, for all the challenging times in our lives.
Charles Spurgeon, in the “Treasury of David” explained, “since he who sees and hears the abominable deeds and words of the rebellions, will surely deal with them according to his justice”.
“Who God is” allows us to understand who we are and “Whose we are”. Meditating on these pieces was so critical as it actually defined who David was in the years to come.
You are firmly aware that it He is “Emmanuel”, God with us… that changes us…
our hearts and our minds, our desires and hopes and our dreams from the inside out, day after day until the day that we arrive in heaven. He has arranged a journey for each of us… it’s unique, purposeful, and intimately, known by the god of all the universe.
Listen to Psalm 139:13 “For you created my inmost being, you knit me together in my mother’s womb”.
Have you ever thought about what God’s perspective was about you? and every person… representing every cell, every atom every chromosome, to the smallest molecular dynamic that made us who we are. He was in every intricate detail.
Our color, ethnicity, disability … Yes, and every seeming disability will bring glory to God and well-being for us beyond what we can know or imagine. He has a perfect plan… We cannot know it…often we cannot see it but he promises that it is so because he is all good, all righteous, all loving, even when the circumstances in the natural seem to say otherwise. David came to the place to believe that by faith.
(the essence of things hoped for, the EVIDENCE of things unseen.)
Matthew Henry once wrote, “God has perfect knowledge of us, and all our thoughts and actions are open before him”. Every thought, and every action, of every person, in all the world… simultaneously, how can mere man grasp such a thing… yet we question God at every turn, and forget who he is, and whose we are.
Adam and Eve’s sin caused them to run and hide from God just like we do today. But we are not hidden from God, he knows what we are going to think before we think it. He knows what we are going to do before we do it. And Jesus made a way for us, but there was no way in the natural. God is spirit. With Jesus, each day is a new day that we can walk encouraged, honoring his greatest commandments, obedient, and praising our God who is Sovereign. Who is with me, he wrote my name in the lambs book of life and has prepared a room for you for all eternity.
Psalm 139 6 says this knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain. Don’t let your wait keep you from believing.
Your life was given to you by God.
The God of the universe actually partners with you, so wherever you are…
whatever situation you’re in…
this is your day to begin your comeback. But not alone!
It begins by laying down the baggage, the unbelief, your lack of faith, and raising your eyes to heaven, where your help comes from, and his name is
Jesus
