It’s Time to Move Forward II – Follow up to Goal Setting

We covered a lot of positive ground yesterday about setting yourself up for a brilliant future. By putting past regrets behind you. Forever! Completing it! Burying the past failures! No more looking back. Did you begin? Send me a note if you did! Maybe you need this weekend to work through this.

What did we layout yesterday? Being intentional about going out to resolve resentments and or unforgiveness. Examine what you learned this last year and then create a new and exciting future from a completed past. No hidden closets. No unspoken tails of terror.

No hindrances. JUST CREATING A NEW AND EXCITING FUTURE.

SEE IT… BELIEVE IT… PLAN FOR IT… DO IT!

GOD WILL RISE UP TO MEET YOU!

So, what is stopping you from getting what you want in life?

Your friends? Your family? A sense that failure – or success – might change your life and that feeling is uncomfortable? A sense that the people around you might disapprove of you aiming for what you want, or of you succeeding or failing? Essentially it boils down to fear. The big roadblock, sometimes the massive wall in the middle of the road that keeps you from getting what you want! Procrastination? What an ugly word and a worse habit. (We all have it to one degree or another.)

Let’s talk about a fear that might seem overwhelming at first. For instance, this strong feeling – can almost feel like a flight or fight response. Consider, just before doing public speaking or asking someone out for a date. If you´re nervous socially you might not feel able to ask people out on dates right away. The fear of being rejected and that others might think less of you if you get turned down can make many of us feel unable to ask the question. The same might apply to public speaking or even communicating in a small group.

When you try to ignore your fear, it grows.

So how do we overcome it? Here are some useful ways.

Understand your fear and embrace it. Fear exists to keep us safe. It is not inherently bad or good but a tool we can use to make better decisions. Embrace fear as instruction and let it inform your actions, but not control them.

When fear strikes consider whether the correct action might be to analyze the options and make a wise, well thought out choice rather than jumping to what seems right in the heat of the moment.

Speak your fear out loud, write it down, or focus your mind on it.

When you try to ignore your fear, it grows. When you face it, it shrinks.

Use God’s word and speak to it.

“ I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Phil 4:11

Utilize peer pressure. Surround yourself with people who will push you to overcome the fears that are holding you back from what you want. Like an accountability partner.

Educate yourself. We are afraid of nothing so much as the unknown. If your fear is based on a lack of information, then get the information or knowledge you need. Identify your fear. Then make a plan, with some smaller steps you can take to gradually lessen your discomfort. 2 tim: 1: 7 God didn’t give you that fear? Never! For me the easiest thing to do is just TRUST GOD! That’s it! TRUST GOD! He has never failed me yet!

Be Intentional about sitting down with your spouse and/or accountability partner and drill down on YOUR plans for YOUR future.

Hab: 2:2 "Write the Vision and make it plain… So that he who reads it will run to it.. even if it tarries … wait for it. For surely it will come in at the appointed time!”

Please drop me a note on how you’re doing or if you have gotten stuck. I will gladly work with you to conquer it. Be bold and don’t put this off.
