That River of Reality is the Word of God
All of us want to draw strength from some deep river of reality and become fruitful, joyous, and useful people. What is that river for you? The internet? Google? Some TED talk? Really…what do you draw from every day as you navigate life? I think most people run on automatic. My schedule is set by my work and family… It’s full as usual. There’s no great wisdom required, I’ve done these things for years… What’s the big deal?
How much room is there for God to impart some great wisdom into mundane tasks?
How does one quantify God’s worth in mundane tasks? How does one walk with God and talk with him? How can we know the joy of God if the little things are all discarded as inconsequential? Who needs God, then? Some say I need him for the big stuff. The problems of my life and the world. World Peace.
What you’re talking about is a relationship, but I just need a problem solver.
When Jesus came into the world, humanity was split according to what they loved. “The light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light” (John 3:19).
The righteous and the wicked are separated by what they delight in —
the revelation of God in Jesus, OR the way of the world.
There will come a time when you will fall to your knees in the despair of your helplessness to enjoy and love anything without God. Why… because God is love and we need prayer to know God beyond the thimble of our finite understanding.
Pray that God will open the recesses of your heart. Pray that he will take away this calcified heart of stone and turn it into one of flesh. You can begin today or wait for the crucibles of your life that will keep appearing to us all until we go home. I believe we will continue to struggle with the same things until we learn what GOD is trying to tell us about them. His way. His will. His word.
Meditate on his word day and night, and do not let it depart from you.
Everything else will burn like hay and stubble.
We know this, so why do we hesitate?
The psalmist said, “How sweet are your words to my taste” (Psalm 119:103), he said earlier,
“Open my eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of your law” (Psalm 119:18)
Yes, meditate on the benefits God promises to his people and on the joy of having Almighty God as your helper now and forever. (Especially in those mundane tasks) Psalm 1:3–4 says that the person who meditates on God’s word “is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.
The wicked are not so, but are like chaff that the wind drives away”.
Who would not want to be that tree that even in a dry season will pick up the freshwater because of the deep roots we have grown in our obedience to God’s word? By loving his direction. By being a student and servant of God Almighty Himself. Who wouldn’t want that? It’s called the river of living water.
The Book of Life. The Book of the real reality.
