The Voice of God – Is it for today?
A Messenger of the Almighty
As Moses descended from the Holy Mountain—a place forbidden for any man to touch—his wife, Zipporah, beheld him with awe. “He has seen God,” she whispered. Moses replied, “I stood on holy ground, but my eyes could not look upon Him.
He revealed His Word to my mind, and His Word was God.”
He continued, “His light is in every man. He will not deliver His people by the sword but by the staff of a shepherd.” Moses spoke of standing in the burning light of God’s presence,
overwhelmed by the weight of His glory.
Moses was one of God’s Chosen spokesmen
Moses was God’s messenger, one of the few to whom God spoke directly and audibly. He joined the ranks of Abraham, Jacob, and David—men who carried extraordinary responsibilities. They were leaders, priests, and intercessors, bridging the gap between God and His people.
- They presented the people’s offerings as sacrifices for sin.
- They led and instructed the people in spiritual matters.
- They relayed God’s words and commands.
These men were chosen for a divine purpose, yet their role foreshadowed something greater to come.
A Royal Priesthood
Who do you think you are? Would you trade places with Moses?
Scripture tells us that “WE TOO, are a royal priesthood and a holy generation (1 Peter 2:9). Though we may not hear God’s voice audibly, we can still discern His thoughts and commands. If we train our hearts and minds daily, we will recognize His voice—whether it be through Scripture,
prayer, or even life’s circumstances.
And here is something astonishing: we have something even Moses didn’t have. We have the Holy Spirit dwelling within us. We are poured out before Him, living vessels for His purpose.
When God Speaks
Throughout history, God has spoken at pivotal moments:
- To create mankind – His voice brought life into existence.
- To reset His creation – When humanity rebelled, He intervened. Noah…Lot
- To prepare for the Messiah – His words foretold the coming of Christ.
God gave prophecy not only to reveal the future but to validate Jesus’ identity and purpose. Now, as we await His return, some argue that God no longer speaks as He did in the past. But is that true?
Hearing God Today
Our calling under the New Covenant is a greater honor than even those who led Israel. While Moses and Joshua had direct encounters with God, we have His Spirit within us, continually guiding, teaching, and transforming us. The third person of the Trinity.
Jeremiah 33:3 declares:
“Call to Me, and I will answer you, and tell you great and mighty things, which you do not know.”
God still speaks today. He speaks through Scripture, through prayer, through His people, and even through the divine orchestration of circumstances. But listening requires us to clear away the noise—our distractions, personal desires, and preconceived notions.
The Word Made Flesh
Jesus Christ IS the Word of God. The Father sent the second person of the Trinity so that we could see, hear, and understand His divine will. One day, we will have glorified bodies and will behold Him as Adam and Eve once did. We have that! It’s called the Bible, filled with His instruction, direction, and access to the power of the universe itself. The Holy Spirit.
Until we are raised to meet him in the air, we must grasp the weight of our calling. Our place in history is no accident—it was designed before time began.
We are exactly where God intended us to be. Are you listening?
Would I trade places with Moses or Joshua? No. Because what I have—the indwelling Holy Spirit—is far greater than standing on a mountain or holding a staff. I am a holy vessel, set apart for His purpose, living in the fullness of His promise. If you will have faith for it…
So are You.
