They Care When It’s Too Late

I woke up with a burden today. Let me ask you, who is in your circle of influence?

Not your contact list.
Not your church directory.
I mean the people you love. The ones whose names come to mind when the house gets quiet.

How did they really do through the holidays?
Not the Facebook version.
Not the “We’re fine” answer.

Who’s carrying weights or burdens right now,
spiritually, financially, relationally, physically,
and nobody knows because they’ve learned how to smile through it?

Galatians 6:2 reminds us:  “Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.”

But here’s the hard truth:
You can’t carry a burden you never bothered to notice.

We often tell ourselves, “I didn’t want to intrude.”
“I didn’t want to offend.”
“I didn’t know what to say.”

Yet James 4:7 tells us plainly: “Anyone, then, who knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it, sins.”

Sometimes silence isn’t kindness.
Sometimes it’s neglect dressed up as politeness.  Ouch!

You don’t need a pulpit to care.
You don’t need a title to pray.
You don’t need permission to say,
“I love you, and I want to be here for you.”

A cup of coffee.
A walk.
A simple, “How are you really doing?”

That’s ministry.  That’s love.
And here’s the part that cuts deep:

Too many care when it’s too late.
When silence has already done its damage.
When someone finally stops hoping you’ll notice.
When someone is …. Gone!

Proverbs warns us: “An honest answer is like a kiss on the lips.”
Proverbs 24:26

Honesty requires courage.
Love requires initiative.
So today, ask yourself:
Who have I been quiet toward when God was asking me to be present?
(Were you listening?)

Because the door doesn’t always slam shut.
Sometimes it just closes quietly.  Ask Him to remove the scales from your eyes and to help you use your spiritual eyesight and discernment.

Don’t allow your silence to remain and separate you from those you should care about. We will be surprised, that too few or no one is really standing with them or listening.
The Holy Spirit WILL give you the words.

Lord, forgive us for the moments we chose comfort over compassion. Teach us to see, to reach, and to speak while there is still time. Make us faithful friends and a courageous family. Amen.
