When You Can’t See His Goodness – Faith in the Darkness.

Have you ever… been in a place where things have been so hard, for so long… that you almost forgot the goodness of God? You still knew Him, still loved Him, but the weight of discouragement made it nearly impossible to see His faithfulness… His goodness in the quicksand of your moment.

The truth is, every one of us has been there—even Christians. Life can feel heavy, exhausting, and unfair. But God wants you to see Him in those moments, to trust Him through those moments, and to believe that this too will pass.

This may not be you right now, but please don’t tune me out just yet. Each of us knows someone suffering right now.  They are tired of telling people how they feel…all the time.  But, we need to see through that screen and lift them, pray with them, encourage them.  Let it be your offering, your incense to the father of brotherly love, during this holiday.  (Please don’t wait to be asked.  Even a cheerful visit or an uplifting phone call.  And then end it with a short, sweet prayer of encouragement.

Psalm 34:18 says: “The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.”
Even when you can’t feel Him, He is there. Even when hope seems far away,
His presence surrounds you. He hasn’t left, He hasn’t forgotten,
and He is walking right alongside you, in the darkness of your thoughts, fears, and doubts.

Faith isn’t always about feeling strong; sometimes it’s about taking the next small step when all you see is darkness. Hebrews 11:1 reminds us: “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” That tiny grain of faith, that mustard seed lying dormant in your heart, is enough to reach for His hand. That’s where hope begins.

And here’s something powerful…faith grows stronger when it’s shared.
Don’t try to do this alone. Find a brother or sister in Christ, someone whose faith can lift you when yours feels weak. Borrow their strength for a while. If you don’t have someone… reach out to me!
That is the power of Christian community—holy friendship, holy hope.
God often uses the people around us to remind us of His promises
when our own hearts are too heavy to remember.

So today, if you feel broken, discouraged, or worn out, hear this: God is nearer than your feelings say. He sees your pain. He is holding you, even if you don’t feel it yet. And His goodness, His faithfulness, His love—they are still at work in your life. Trust Him with the small steps, the quiet moments, the trembling hands. Step forward in faith, even if it’s just enough to reach for Him.

Lamentations 3:22-23 reminds us: “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases;
His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.”
Every morning brings a fresh start, a new chance
to see His love break through your darkness.

Even when the night feels endless, the light of God’s presence cannot be extinguished. Even when you feel weak, His strength is made perfect in your weakness. Hold on. Reach out. Step forward.
You are not alone, and this season of pain will not last forever.

“Father, I thank You that You are near to the brokenhearted and that Your love never fails. Strengthen the faith that feels small, lift the hearts that are heavy, and remind us that even in our darkest moments, Your light shines. Surround us with Your presence and with people who can encourage our faith. Help us take each trembling step toward You, trusting Your goodness, mercy, and faithfulness. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
