Thanksgiving – The Table God Prepares
“For all things are for your sakes, so that the grace which is spreading to more and more people may cause the giving of thanks to abound to the glory of God. Therefore, we do not lose heart, but though our outer man is decaying, yet our inner man is being renewed day by day.”
— 2 Corinthians 4:15–16
Thanksgiving is just a week away, and it remains my favorite holiday. No presents. No pressure. Just family gathering to break bread, share stories, and enjoy a few hours of honest connection. For many of us this happens several times a year, but Thanksgiving carries a unique atmosphere—an expected kindness, a gentleness, a readiness to love and be loved. There’s a quiet desire to go deeper, to reconnect with those we haven’t spent enough time with, and to feel the beauty of family again.
As our families grow—10, 20, or for mine, usually over 30 people—it becomes harder to give real quality time to everyone. Yet still, something in us longs for that warmth.
And friend, God feels the same way about you.
Whether this has been a year of abundance or a year of hardship, His desire for you has not changed. He wants fellowship with you the same way we want it on Thanksgiving. He wants to be at the center of your joy and the heart of your longing for connection.
Sometimes, in the excitement of preparing for the gathering, we forget that the warmth, joy, and gratitude we feel on that day are truly the overflow of Christ in us—the Hope of Glory.
When we pause and remember what He gave up to prepare a table for us—not once, but every day—it deepens our gratitude in a profound way.
One of the sweetest family moments we can create is to prepare our home in prayer before our guests arrive. To lift our hearts in praise to our Heavenly Father on this day of giving thanks. Because the greatest warmth we will feel around that table will always come from Christ’s love overflowing in us.
It all comes down to the object of our affection.
Whatever we intentionally place in our hearts will overflow into our gatherings, conversations, and relationships. And from there, we can take the table He has so lavishly prepared for us—
and share it not only with our families, but with all of Samaria.
May I close with a simple request: If you’re alone and need a family this weekend? You don’t need to bring a thing. Please reach out to me. We always make room for family.
Command Your Week in Prayer
FATHER, as we enter this holiday season, may we choose to be HAPPY, and may we choose to be UNSTOPPABLE. Let us perceive that the happiness of our lives depends on the quality of our thoughts. Free us from every stronghold that steals our smile.
Remind us that pain, discouragement, sadness, despair, lack of hope, misery, hurt, anger, and misfortune fall away at the sound of Your great name. We are bigger than our worries. Help us see that the key to being happy is knowing we have the power to choose what to accept and what to let go.
Your Word says in 1 Chronicles 16:10 (ERV): “Be proud of his holy name. You followers of the Lord, BE HAPPY!” Father, help us know that happiness is a choice, not a result. Nothing will make us happy until we choose to be happy. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
