Spiritually Gifted on Purpose Part 1 of 3

Let’s talk about something we often don’t speak of enough — spiritual gifts.

To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. To one is given through the Spirit the utterance of wisdom, and to another the utterance of knowledge according to the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another the discernment of spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. All these are activated by one and the same Spirit, who allots to each one individually just as the Spirit chooses” (1 Corinthians 12:1-11).

Some Christians quietly wonder, Do I even have one?

Scripture answers that clearly: “A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other.” (1 Corinthians 12:7)

Not to a few.
Not to the talented.
Not to the pastors only.

To each… Every believer has at least one spiritual gift. That means if you belong to Christ, Heaven has equipped you.

Spiritual gifts are not natural talents.
They are supernatural empowerments (Weapons!) given by the Holy Spirit to strengthen the church and glorify God.  And we are the church!

Romans 12 lists gifts like serving, teaching, encouraging, giving, leadership, mercy.
1 Corinthians 12 includes wisdom, knowledge, faith, healing, miracles, prophecy, discernment, and tongues.  Ephesians 4 speaks of roles like pastor, teacher, and evangelist.

Notice something:    The Spirit distributes them “as He determines” (1 Corinthians 12:11).

So listen to me:  You don’t choose your gift.  You receive it.

Some of you ask, how do I come up with what I write.  This time I read this quote that  Hans Urs von Balthasar said,
“What you are is God’s gift to you. What you become is your gift to God.”

What I am is God’s gift to me?   What does that mean?  He continues by saying: “It is to the Cross that the Christian is challenged to follow his Master: no path of redemption can make a detour around it”.

That means this..that even a young Christians act of service affects:

Your wiring.
Your personality.
Your sensitivities.
Your burdens.
Your strengths.

Those are God’s gifts to you. But they are also, His weapons.  We are preparing for Easter.  Do you think Satan is lying back, taking the Super Bowl of Christianity without an attack plan?  How can we use our spiritual gifts to do actual warfare?  Have you ever thought of it that way?

This season to Easter is confrontational.

And if we walk into it casually, we miss the war that was happening behind the scenes.

The Cross was not just a sacrifice — it was spiritual warfare.

So how do the gifts of Romans 12, 1 Corinthians 12, and Ephesians 4 prepare believers for battle? Each and every one of them prepares you for internal spiritual warfare.  Serving alone defeats selfishness.  Do you not see that as a power and a weapon against Satan?

Each of these becomes your gift back to Him.

And here’s the sobering truth:  No path of redemption detours around the cross. Your gift will cost you something.  Mercy will cost emotional energy.
Leadership will cost criticism.
Teaching will cost study.
Evangelism will cost rejection.
Giving will cost comfort.

But buried gifts build nothing.   And unused gifts don’t stay neutral — they decay.
A gift from God that decays because we put it on a shelf!

God has not saved you to sit in a seat.  He saved you to strengthen His body. None of us are designed to be a spectator in the Kingdom.  Not One!

You are a steward, and Heaven has already placed something in your hand.

The only question is:
Will you open it?
Or will you bury it?

Choose you this day who you will serve by friends…and every day!
