Remembering he would die soon drove Steve Jobs to create.

Steve Jobs, Apple creator. Was incredibly ingenious and driven in his life. He said: “Remembering that I’ll be dead soon is the most important tool I’ve ever encountered to help me make the big choices in life.” That is what drove him. “Don’t wait”
I believe the call of a Christian is so much higher than the next Apple Watch or Ipad. We too will be dead soon, but we seem to easily ignore that simple factor that drove Steve to his genius. We are so cavalier in living life like our silos are full, I will eat drink, and be merry but men and women are falling around us in huge numbers. Many of them are younger than we are. Yet we wait.

Fatal success is what awaits every person whose joy in life is achieving, striving for, and living for things! We don’t openly admit that. We would say we are about family, our kids but the truth is where are we honestly spending the majority of our time. Is that what your time allocations say to you? Look, I don’t want to beat you up about what you feel you are driven to by circumstances of providing and achieving success. But I want us to look at where you are investing and what you are investing in.

Mark 8:35 “Whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake and the gospels will save it.”

Depending on your point of view too many of us waste our lives spiritually, and what is more important than that? If we are wasting that portion of our lives, then what and who are we living for? We say we live for our family but there is no time for them. We say we are to walk through life with our spouses in harmony, communicating and loving each other. Many of us do with some portion of our lives but what does that spiritual union and spiritual agreement look like between you in your prayer life or time together in God’s word? Is living for the Jaguar and the 5,000SF house the prize?. How much of that fits into a casket?

Who do we have in our lives who loves us enough to keep knocking on our door to wake us up, so we know what’s coming? Jesus came to radically change the world view of living and loving. He said we must give our life away to save them. He said we must die to ourselves to gain an eternity of joyous living, serving, and loving God.

That just doesn’t happen with an act of your will. How many times have we failed on those resolutions? Igniting a passion to make your life count is only possible by the grace of God. It is only in drawing closer to the light, God’s word, that the light becomes so bright it washes away the layers of self and the world so we continually grow in our love for God. Our passion to know God and the joy of living every day of our lives for him. His love becomes so overpowering, that we discover the joy of serving a loving God. We can only achieve that by the Holy Spirit opening up our minds, our eyes, and ears to hear the wisdom of God. As we truly learn about God we can’t help but rejoice in the truth of who he is and what he has called us to. If we do not or for some reason cannot savor who God is as a person, how can we walk like him and live the joyous life he has promised us.?
Each of us has become misaligned by the influences of the world and they have warped what we see and what we believe. As we have wandered from the track of God we find ourselves in forbidden pastures, eating our way into future dimensions of a world that offers everything but in reality will leave you bankrupt. You can’t add any of it to your casket.

If you are nearing retirement or beyond, how do you think you have lived your life? How do you want to finish it so you won’t say at the end I wasted it?

It is never too late to know God better. To achieve a real passion for Christ. To discover God and his purpose, his truth, and his life for you. Could you name a couple of life scriptures that have kept you grounded?
