All storms do not come from Satan.
If the enemy can distract you the enemy can beat you. Perhaps it’s happened to you. I’m sure you’ve seen it in some movie. Someone accidentally steps out in front of a moving object and at the last second, someone pushes them to safety. Perhaps even tackling them and keeping them from a catastrophe. Often, and with a knee-jerk reaction the near victim blows up at their rescuer until they realize that they were the ones who saved them. I guess the moral of the story is sometimes what appears to be a bad thing can turn out to be very good.
Sometimes the storms and the tornadoes in our life can serve a similar purpose. It’s so easy to get caught up in life and we get distracted. We might even be in pursuit of a good thing, our goals, or a meaningful project. The fact is we have our heads down and we’re not paying a lot of attention to what is happening around us. We are so pressed into our own desires, into our own goals that we may not be paying attention to where God is trying to lead us.
Have you ever seen one of your kids working on a project or struggling in the direction and you know that it’s not gonna work? But they won’t listen. So you let them continue because one of our jobs is also to teach them how to fail and learn from their mistakes. Through the trial, we want to position them for a real blessing and teach them the benefits of perseverance and integrity and overcoming a failed project.
Sometimes we forget that our heavenly Father is sovereign and he will go to great lengths to position us for his blessings and his best in our lives. And in that process sometimes we can find ourselves in the midst of the storm.
Everything was going so well we were making great progress towards our own goals and out of the blue, something or someone slapped you on the side of the head. And often our first question is how can God let this happen to me now. Of all times! But I wonder how many times we stop and think if he might be saving us from something that will hurt us or cripple us? It may be as simple as he’s just trying to get us to draw closer to him.
So do I believe that God in his sovereignty can sometimes bring storms in the forms of mountains and detours and hardships? Yes, I do. But as a father, I would never set an obstacle in front of one of my children to hurt them.
My purpose is to grow them.
So how much more does our heavenly father love us?
Is it possible that our loving father just wants our attention? He may want us to look in a different direction. He may want you to focus on what he wants versus what you wanted. And although our initial reaction might’ve been a knee-jerk angry reaction. Once we stop and settle ourselves and seek the Lord we will find that peace that surpasses all understanding. And hopefully and prayerfully come to realize that we really were not far off the mark but God just wanted our attention so he could reveal a blessing for us or for someone near and dear to us.

The Devil whispered in my ear, “You’re not strong enough to withstand the storm.”
Today I whispered in the Devil’s ear, “I am the storm.”
