Don’t Let the Seeds Die With You –  Part 3

I wrote this as a letter to my daughter…(she hasn’t read it yet)  but the truth is,
it doesn’t belong to her alone.

Because this isn’t just about a graduation. It’s about the unseen network of people who helped shape a life—people who showed up, poured in, corrected, encouraged, carried weight they didn’t have to carry. And if you’re honest, you have faces coming to mind right now.

And here’s the part most of us don’t stop to consider…
If someone else’s fingerprints are all over your life…
then yours are showing up on someone else’s life too.
So don’t read this like it’s someone else’s moment.
Read it like a mirror.

My Youngest Princess Danae,

I watched you walk across that stage at SEU, take that diploma, and step into a moment that marks years of effort, growth, and perseverance. And I hope you’ll remember what I share today…

This moment is yours… but you didn’t get here alone.

I know you know that—but I want you to truly see it. The fingerprints all over your life. Not just in passing… but their fingerprints. I want you to write them down as God brings them to mind. Remember specifically what they gave you—the seed, the encouragement, the correction, the moment they stood in the gap.

Let those memories be written deeply on your heart. Don’t lose them.

People who taught you when you didn’t understand.
People who corrected you when it would’ve been easier to stay silent.
People who believed in you before you fully believed in yourself.

You are standing in a harvest that others helped plant.

The Bible says, “One plants, another waters, but God gives the increase.” You’ve heard me say that more times than you can count… but now you’re stepping into what it really means.

Your life is not just something you build… it’s something you receive, steward, and then pass on.
So here’s another seed I want to plant in you—not as advice, but as something you must carry:

You must become someone who pours into others.
Not someday. Not when it’s convenient.
Now.

Because if everything that was given to you stays with you… something sacred gets lost. But if you choose to invest in others—your time, your wisdom, your encouragement—then what was poured into you multiplies. And it will outlive you.

I already see that in you… in the way you lead with United, in how you pour into those high school girls. That’s not small. That’s legacy starting.

That’s the kind of life that matters.
Pay attention to people. Be present.

When you see potential—say something.
When someone is struggling—step in.
When you have the chance to guide—don’t hold back.
That’s what was done for you.
And that’s why you can’t forget those who helped build you.

Reach back to them.
Thank them—specifically. Not because I’m your dad… but because it matters.

There were many hands in your story. Let them see the fruit of what they invested in you. It will mean more to them than you can imagine. You don’t need a special day to honor people. You just need a heart that refuses to forget.

I see that heart in you—but you must protect it.
Grow it. Feed it with humility, relationship, and a servant’s spirit.
Because one day… someone will tell a story about their life…
And your name will either come up as someone who showed up, spoke life, and changed their direction…—or it won’t.

And that won’t be decided in big moments like today.
It will be decided in the quiet ones…
when you choose to notice, to step in, to give, to care.
So live in a way that makes sure it does.

I’m proud of you… not just for what you’ve done, but for who you are becoming. I love watching it unfold.
And I believe this with everything in me… you have what it takes to carry this forward.

So spread your princess wings… and don’t just fly toward success—
fly toward the One who gave you everything worth passing on.

Jesus.

Love you more than anything in the whole wide world,
Dad

(For Reflection)

  1. Whose fingerprints are clearly visible on my life—and have I truly honored them in a meaningful way?
  2. If someone were telling their story five years from now, would I be part of it as someone who invested in them… or just someone who passed by?
