FOLLOW THE RULES TO GET RESULTS IN PRAYER
I heard a story of a woman coming up for prayer after service. She said, I want you to agree with me in prayer about the burdens and the cares of life, they’re just so heavy for me I can’t carry them any longer. Please pray that God will give me the grace to bear them or take half of them away so I can carry them.
Dear sister, he replied, we don’t have to pray about that – we’ve already heard from heaven. God‘s word is our message from Heaven. It couldn’t be more clear if the Angel Michael came down and delivered it in person.
GOD'S WORD IS ETERNAL!
Look at 1 Peter 5:7 "casting all your cares upon him: for he cares for you". He said ma’am, I can't ask him to help you carry these burdens because he doesn’t want you to carry them.
He wants you to cast all of your cares upon him.
"I can’t do it!" she said. Pastor said, " sister, God is not telling you to do something you can’t do. He would be an unjust God to do that. You’ve been caring these burdens for years and it’s not getting you anywhere. The only way to solve your problem is by doing what God is telling you to do in his word". Yeah, she said, but you don’t know what I’ve got to worry about.
But God does, he knows it all and he understands at all.
She walked away and said, "I can’t give up my worrying".
That got me thinking about so many people who come up for prayer – they are so needy, they are still hurting and they so much want relief from the pressure.
They will read the scriptures like psalm 37:5 "commit thy way under the Lord: trust also in him: and he shall bring it to Pass!" But they can’t commit their way to the Lord. They won’t lay that burden at the foot of the cross. But they will moan, groan, and complain to everyone who will listen because they just won’t believe God‘s word.
Let’s look at Matthew 6:25–27 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, …"
Which one of us has ever accomplished anything by worrying about it? What special formula does worry have to alleviate any of our cares? Luke 12;22 says "therefore, I say unto you, Take no thought for your life…"
Paul said in Philippians 4:6 "do not fret or have anxiety about anything”. People want God to take their anxiety away but he states clearly to not have fear or anxiety about anything! Give it to God!
Look, as long as we don’t take that first step – as long as we continue to carry the burden of anxiety and fear – you nullify the effects of your prayer. You haven’t cast your burdens upon the Lord. You still have them. And when we have them, God doesn’t.
I know that I’m guilty of this but I don’t think his word says that we are to do this every day or every time that we step into some issue that raises our blood pressure. What he said is a once for all time proposition.
"Be careful for nothing!".
But you see we keep taking it back every day – every time a new attack comes from Satan, we just pick it up and run with it. And God just wants to know how long you’re going to keep doing this? How long are you gonna keep doing what I’m telling you not to do and then you wonder why things aren’t working out.
What does that mean? That means that you can’t go around telling everybody about all your fears and worries anymore. A lot of people say they wanna get rid of them but I think they just need something to complain about all day long. I think they’re happy being miserable. Or so it would appear that way. If they didn’t have these issues what would they have to talk about?
I look at people like Pastor Dale Brooks who is praying through his second more serious battle with Lymphoma. You will never hear him complain. He will not let those cares and worries even touch his lips. He stands on God's word! That's it! There is nothing more to see or to say. He praises God when his body is screaming and he praises God when he is riding his motorcycle praising God at the top of his lungs. He was in at the annual meet for the Hooch dual-sport motorcycle 250 mile ride in Georgia this week. He opens Saturday and Sunday morning before the men ride with a short message and a prayer for all the men. He has been doing that for years. They asked to come back again for their fall gathering. They love him. He preaches the word of 'God and he lives it and loves it. It is life to him as it should be to all of us.
