7. The Ark of the Covenant – The Holiest of Holies
Behind the second veil is the holiest of holies. This is where intercession is made. This is the place of the mercy seat where God’s presence dwells. According to Hebrew tradition, the area was defined by four pillars that held up the veil of the covering, under which the Ark of the Covenant was held above the floor. A brocade curtain (Hebrew: parochet), made with cherubim motifs woven directly into the fabric from the loom, divided the Holy of Holies from the lesser Holy place.
The inside was in total darkness and contained the Ark of the Covenant, gilded inside and out, in which was placed the Tablets of the Covenant. According to both Jewish and Christian tradition, Aaron's rod is said to continue to bud, and a pot of manna, that never rots was also in the ark. The Ark was covered with a lid made of pure gold, known as the "mercy seat",(Exodus 37:6) which was covered by the beaten gold cherubim wings, creating the space for the Divine Presence (Exodus 25:22). the Holy of Holies was covered by a veil,[7] and no one was allowed to enter except the High Priest, and even he would only enter once a year on Yom Kippur,
I want you to think about how God desires and wants to dwell with and be accessible to you His people (Exodus 25:v. 8).
GOD DOES NOT WANT TO BE FAR FROM US;
EVEN IN THE OLD TESTAMENT
(this is before the death and resurrection of Jesus, and before the indwelling work of the Holy Spirit), HE ALREADY WANTED TO DWELL WITH US. First, He dwelt with us IN SPIRIT (sharing His Shekinah Glory with His people.)
Then, HE HIMSELF BECAME FLESH AND DWELT AMONG US.
Therefore, access and prayer to God IN CLOSE INTIMACY is NOT IMPOSSIBLE OR HARD. We MUST in fact even EXPECT IT! ESPECIALLY NOW,
IN THESE LAST DAYS, WHEN HEAVEN IS CLOSING DOWN ON EARTH!
Exodus 25:1-9-1-9 The Message (MSG)
GOD spoke to Moses: “Tell the Israelites that they are to set aside offerings for me. Receive the offerings from everyone who is WILLING to give”.
Take note of the word WILLINGLY (v. 2.) b. The KIND OF MATERIALS THAT WE BRING, and the MANNER BY WHICH WE BUILD OR MAKE THEM, MUST BE ACCORDING TO THE INSTRUCTIONS OF THE LORD (“according to all that I will show you” v. 9). WE CAN NOT MEET OR BE INTIMATE WITH GOD ON OUR OWN TERMS! It has to be ON HIS TERMS!
The tabernacle that God instructed to build WAS AN EARTHLY COPY OF THE HEAVENLY REALITY!! Take note in verse 9: THE PATTERN (or mode) was SHOWN to Moses.
When men construct buildings, they begin from the outside. God, when He gave instructions about the tabernacle, THE ARK OF THE COVENANT,
he started from the inside out.
In v. 10 3. God specified the materials He needed:
THE MATERIALS ALREADY GIVE US AN IDEA OF WHAT THE LORD WANTS FROM US WHEN WE WANT TO MEET HIM.
v. 3 He said those who are willing bring, gold, silver, bronze – which means OUR BEST. *v. 4 bring blue, purple, and scarlet yarn, fine linen thread, goat’s hair – meaning bring AN UNDERSTANDING AND APPRECIATION OF THE UNION AND WORKS OF THE FATHER, SPIRIT, AND SON, and the fact that WE ARE A REDEEMED PEOPLE (we do not come in our own merit or holiness; someone else died for us; JESUS
v. 6 bring the oil for light, spices for anointing oil, and sweet incense – This represents PRAYER, PRAISE, AND WORSHIP v. 7 onyx stones and stones to be set in the ephod and breastplate (of the high priest) – represents the PRECIOUSNESS OF GOD’S WILL AND KNOWING IT AND LOOKING FOR IT (this is the whole of Exodus chap. 28)
Every element that God dictated had a deeper purpose and meaning…all details we can use today, but you will have to study and learn about these revelations yourself.
For example: THERE IS ONLY ONE GATE, THERE IS NO OTHER GATE! This is a PERFECT PICTURE OF JESUS CHRIST:
John 14:6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. John 10:9 9 I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. I pray you are listening today with spirit ears.
I Pet. 1:18-19 For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors, 19 but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect”.
Romans 8:26-28 – 26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.27 And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
I Timothy 2:1-3 – I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; 2 For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. 3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;
