Sundays Prophecy – How do you let your light shine?
“Does the world know who is the king of your life? Can the world see who the light of your life is? Are you a light on the hill? How bright is your life?
Is it brilliantly bright or does it flicker on and off like a bulb ready to go out? What is your light? Who is your light? Who is guiding you? Am I the first part of your day or am I the emergency stop and the last stop after a train wreck? Aforethought or afterthought?
Don’t allow the world to put a lampshade over you. They cannot see my brilliance in you and your endeavors for me. It is my light. My power. My direction. My wisdom. I will share my glory with no one. You are no longer the babes like when you first came to me. It is time that you put off the old self, that old wineskin. I have for you a new wine skin of my spirit, my light. Open your spiritual eyes and spiritual ears”.
In a world comprised of nothing but chaos, violence, promiscuity, and darkness, let your light shine above all the noise to give hope to others. To let them see the clear markers of your life and the light of God shining through.
Did you know that letting the light of Christ shine through you, helps others fight their battles, even when you don’t know it? You become an encouragement to them. You might be one who gives them hope when they want to give up. I believe we each know people that we would like to be more like. You can be that person for another and never know it. He told us, “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” (See Matt. 5:14–16.)
Did you know a warm smile carries significant weight to others, especially during their dark days, and is something they will always remember about you? It is said that being there for a friend in their darkest days carries more impact than being there on their best days. Following up with them when you know they are struggling or have suffered a loss is truly the heart of God touching them in their deeper needs.
Whether or not your love language is affirmation, giving compliments is always a selfless act. Words have so much power and so much more impact than we can imagine. You can make or break a person's day with your words of encouragement. When we compliment…when we offer praise…we share kindness and compassion in our own way. But rest assured, it is the Holy Spirit working in you.
Being friendly…going out of your way to talk to people or even meet new people is a form of evangelism. It is a start to show your pride in your faith or an opportunity to pray for someone. Each of us has a passion or a sweet spot in some area that surrounds a gift God gave us. Even when we consider ourselves weak in an area, God can build that up and make it a mighty tower for His light, in his time.
Sharing your faith, optimism and gratitude is a clear marker or should be for a Christian to walk in and be known for. Times have changed causing people to dwell more on the negative. Matt 4:16 “the people living in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned.” We need to be that light in the optimism of the Gospel not just being positive-minded.
Micah7;8 “Do not gloat over me, my enemy! Though I have fallen, I will rise. Though I sit in darkness, the LORD will be my light”. Find something praiseworthy about someone or something. Choose to be the person who sees the silver lining in difficult situations.
Being a good listener is an encouragement all by itself. Theodore Roosevelt — 'People don't care how much you know until they know how much you care!. You know that’s true but it takes practice…and patience. (You know that thing no one wants to pray for.) We must develop that strength. It is a selfless act when we listen to someone's problem because as they open their heart we can see and know their pain. What a perfect time to pray with them and trust God with them.
Matt 15: 18-19 “But what comes out of the mouth proceeds from the heart, and this defiles a person. 19 For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false witness, slander”
But there will always be those that run from God and from what they know is right. David says in Ps 139: 7-10 “Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence?
We can be that light for them. We can be that encouraging word to share they are going the wrong way. We can be uplifting to them even when they are in a dark and sinful place.
God called you out of darkness to be a light for others to see. 1 Peter 2:9
The blessing is we are led out of our own darkness in the process.
