What is my calling in life? What is God’s plan for my life?
We agree God has called you "His" for a reason. He has a plan for you on earth and in eternity. How can you know something to be true but not know exactly the direction to start with?
Look, your calling may not be immediately clear to you, but God wants to show you, through the Holy Spirit, what His plan is for you. What your calling from God is.
But here is truth number one. It is not about you. That’s why we have to lay our life down and what we want down. Our aim is to finish the race and endeavors God has given to us. What is that?
The task of testifying to the good news of God’s grace. – Acts 20:24
Each of our prayers will be different. Each of our gifts and callings will be different which is why we can’t compare ourselves to others. What is critical is that you are seeking your calling from God alone.
Talents are those things that God has given you that allow you to excel in certain areas
Gifts, are spiritual areas of life that God has blessed you with. Your gifts may include hospitality, administration, craftsmanship, discernment, evangelism, and more. They help us fulfill the calling in our lives. God’s gifts, God’s purpose, and even our success depends on the Holy Spirit alone. He uses them through us. He is the potter we are the clay. Isaiah 64:8
For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ, we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. – Romans 12:4-5 (NIV)
Your calling is not about you for your personal success or gratification. We are called to the good of others and to glorify our Father in heaven.
It isn’t about the high profile jobs, or how much will they pay me. We live in the “me generation” that has never been his way. For most of us, your calling isn’t your career either. In their hearts, humans plan their course,
but the Lord establishes their steps. – Proverbs 16:9
We need to be busy about seeking God and he will use you as He wills. We find our callings by serving others.
For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. – Ephesians 2:10
Your calling can change over time.
I was raised a Catholic and visited so many non-denominations. I have been single, married, divorced, and lived in half a dozen states.
Yes, we may plan for our future and set goals, but we must remember God has you just where he wants you right now, whether you like it or not. How are you glorifying him and serving others now? We have many seasons of life. But be sure to serve God and serve man until he makes clear what his plan is for you.
Looking for your calling – looking for vision and your mission before God can seem daunting when we don’t hear God. When we don’t know his voice YET. But by putting yourself out there, by putting your hand to things that need your hands and need your heart…faith grows, hope grows, notions begin to materialize and a passion begins to burn for something you had never seen before because you were obedient to move out of your comfort zone and just do something without it being part of some formula or some pre-thought plan that you thought would be a good idea.
Sometimes you find your calling but sometimes you’re calling finds you!
