What the Christian Mind is Not! Part VI

Finally, with our final installment with “The Invisible War on the Mind” Dr. Davey Naugle asked some penetrating questions and gave some enlightening insights, at the Summer Institute at the Dallas Baptist University in 2002 . He said:

A. The Christian mind is not just thinking by Christians or just thinking about Christian things.

B. The Christian mind is not just categorizing all things as right or wrong

C. It is not just employing a Christian line of clichés

D. It is not just supporting Christian causes and issues

E. It is not just memorizing Scripture, or having a quiet time, or asserting Christian doctrines and a correct system of theology.

So what is it?

The Christian mind is a way of thinking about the issues and areas of life on the basis of the fundamental assumptions and teachings of Scripture.

B. The Christian mind is a way of seeing the world and life within it, from a distinctively theistic and biblical point of view.

C. The Christian mind is a spiritual and intellectual condition of mind and heart whereby the totality of things is viewed and interpreted through the grid of the biblical themes of creation, fall, and redemption.

D. The Christian mind is grounded in objective truth, rooted in God, and revealed in creation, humanity, Christ, and Scripture.

E. The Christian mind is not for intellectuals only, nor a head-trip for egg-heads, but is for all serious and thoughtful believers who desire to love God with their minds (Matt. 22: 37), who seek the mind of the Christ (1 Cor. 2: 16) and who desire to grow into the measure of the stature that belongs to the fullness of Him (Eph. 4:13).

Fundamentally we must change our minds. We must Repent for our old ways and old thinking. Repentance is not an event but the beginning of a process. A change of mind that enables the hearing of God's truth. Rom. 12:2 says, "Be transformed by the renewing of your mind…your thoughts". Ask God what you should do with the thoughts you capture. 2 Cor 10: 4-5 EVERYTHING depends on your thinking and the words you speak to yourself and others.

Ephesian 4: …6Be anxious for nothing, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding,
will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

8Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—
think on these things.…

As Christians, we must strive to understand the mind and our thinking. It is too complex and capable of mischief to leave it to worldly influences.
Choose you this day, what your filter will be for your thoughts and
what you will speak into yourself.
