When times go dry in my Spirit Life. What do I do? Part II
We are saved but we feel alone and cut off. But we are not. Let us extend our talk from yesterday and talk about a couple of other reasons for Spiritual dryness and what God’s word says the answer is.
A third way to overcome spiritual dryness is through prayer.
Jeremiah 29:13 says, “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” Jesus taught in Matthew 7:7, “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” Persistence in prayer is a virtue (Luke 18:1). No one said it would be easy. But His grace is sufficient. Trust me…No Trust God!
A 4th way to overcome spiritual dryness. Fellowship with other believers.
One of the strengths of the early church was that they spent time with one another. Acts 2:46–47 notes, “Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.”
God’s purpose for His people is koinonia, which involves fellowship, encouragement, and true relationships. In my experience working with men and couples ministry is people are growing in aloneness. They are so lonely it aches. Please do not underrate the power of this simple act of putting yourself out there even when you don’t know a soul!
Be courageous and step out. I promise God will provide a lifeline.
Our church offers many opportunities for God’s people to serve. That's right give yourself away, and find yourself, find God and find companionship to walk with! You just cannot serve God’s people without taking in the love of God and his people. If you cannot find it in your church maybe you need to find a new church that has a heart for new people. Step out.
Don't do nothing!
David was likely experiencing a time of spiritual dryness when he wrote this psalm: “How long, Lord? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me? How long must I wrestle with my thoughts and day after day have sorrow in my heart?” (Psalm 13:1–2).
But at the end of the same short psalm, we have a change in attitude:
“But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation. I will sing the Lord’s praise, for he has been good to me” (Psalm 13:5–6).
Speak it out ahead of the physical reality. Faith is the essence of things hoped for…
The EVIDENCE of things Not Yet seen! Heb 11: 1-6
How did David break out of his spiritual dryness? He trusted in God’s love; he chose to rejoice and sing, based on unchanging spiritual truth; and he remembered God’s goodness in the past.
Jesus promised, “Whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life” (John 4:14).
Living water from our Lord is a sure cure for spiritual dryness.
