Who Trained You to Fight?
Give me just 3 minutes! What do you have faith for? What do you have faith in? How do you fight a war of faith?
The early Spartans were heralded as the finest soldiers of their time. They started training them at age 7. They were taught to use the sword, proper techniques, and equally as important how to Use the Shield. It got me thinking about where we men received our degree in spiritual warfare? Who taught you to fight? Who discipled you? For how long? What was the curriculum and how did it change you? What have you become in that light?
I venture to say very few of us were trained early in the ways of War. I grew up a Catholic, I went to Mary Help of Christians School for boys, as a full-time boarder, in the 7th, 8th, and 9th grade before moving on to Tampa Catholic High School to graduate. I took faith and catechism as a regular class every day, every week for years. At Mary Help, it was mandatory to go to church daily, and if you were an altar boy, and I was, you would go to church twice daily and three times on Sunday. I didn’t have spelling B’s, I was a finalist in Catechism B’s. We would memorize entire pieces of scripture and doctrine in a competitive environment. Where am I going here?
I was educated about God but didn’t know God as Savior.
(Even though I wanted to be a priest at that time) I knew about Ephesian 6 but never practiced it. I was in a school that taught character, integrity, and honor but I didn’t know anything about the spiritual realm of God even though
I believed in Angels and Demons.
I contend that very few of us have graduated from Spiritual Warfare School. I believe that the majority of us reading today are saved. This is like knowing about Jesus but not really having a personal relationship with Him as Lord of your life. We've read Eph 6 ABOUT spiritual warfare but we don't really know how or haven't taken up the armor to really fight the spiritual fight!
I believe for the majority of us, this is a new piece of ground, spiritually speaking. My prayer today is to get you to see this! No one expects you to know all of this six sense, unseen spiritual battles stuff at a high level…. YET.
Here we are as adults, learning as babes, one of the most fundamental truths about Christianity. The actual battle for our Souls. The arrows that fly by night, hitting us in our weakest areas. The truth behind what Satan and his demons have been doing to us our whole life. And to the lives of our loved ones.
But until you can see what I am saying. Until you realize you are a babe in this area spiritually. Until you can start using the weapons of our warfare… and using them effectively, you will remain a babe. Remain crippled spiritually because you won’t take the time to learn and drill down on these critical areas of warfare and survival… leading to victory.
I pray your eyes are opened. I pray you use the community of small groups or a bible study or an intentional time of study about this to hear, listen and ask questions each week and climb this mountain of knowledge and faith so you can SEE THE HIGHER THINGS OF GOD! Your logic, ingenuity, and common sense, CANNOT help you here. Each of us should be DISCOVERING God's spiritual arsenal and being trained… how to fight and take the high ground.
Meditative Scripture: 2 Corinthians 5:7 7 For we walk by faith, not by sight.
Lord help me to see things through spiritual eyes. Come Holy Spirit show me, lead me, fill me with a desire to press in here. To want this more than anything else. Teach me to fight the good fight. Teach me to resist the enemy and kick him out of my life. Let me really see, what these Ephesian verses mean to me and my family. Help me press into community and learn to stand up… Rise Up… and Fight. Help me Lord!
