Will You Marry Me?
How happy might one be to know their passion in life? To know what matters? To be so in love that you are beyond ecstatic, filled with joy, satisfied in every way. To have someone who can never let you down. Who has your back and loved you first and knows your name. Someone who prepared your bridal suite and had a life plan to help enlarge your holdings and prosper with you. How could you not be happy and over the top joyous for them and desire to live for them and do anything they lovingly asked of you?
A beyond description, crazy in love truth, and reality.
Is this even in the slightest… an exaggeration or overstatement? No, the truth is, it isn’t magnified enough. Scream it from the rooftop and the highest peaks. You have arrived! For you have found the eternal lamp. The light of eternal truth. The sovereign God of the universe who has prepared your eternal home in the blazing center of the Glory of God. John Piper said:
“Here is the truth, the well-lived life must be God exulting and soul-satisfying because that is why God created us. Isaiah 43:7 Psalm 90:14
I believe passion is the right word because God commands us to love him with ALL our heart Matthew 22:37 and reminded us in Revelation 3:16 that “he spits lukewarm people out of his mouth”.
And so we ask, can life really have that much singleness of purpose?
Can work and leisure and relationships and eating and lovemaking and ministry all really flow from a single passion? Is there something deep enough and big enough and strong enough to hold all that together? Can sex and cars and work and war and changing diapers and doing taxes really have a God exulting, soul-satisfying unity?” Yes. Yes and eternally Yes! If you could but touch the hem of his garment? If you could see that the seed of this truth was already planted in you before time began. If you would just let the scales fall from your eyes and see this truth. You would find the epiphany of life eternal for this life and the one to come. Then you would be driven to dive in and water it with special water of God’s word, so faith would grow within and our joy would be full. This is “The Truth”. Meditate on it. Protect it. Do not let it out of your sight. Put it first, above all else and you will discover a peace and joy the world in all its trapping can never know. For they are just a fleeting illusion… a counterfeit of the real thing.
Today, you have another chance. Choose you this day who you will serve? For one cannot serve two masters.
