Judaism held to the belief, God was absolutely NOT approachable. Sure, loved. Respected? Absolutely. Feared? Yes and yes. Some say the scribes who wrote his name in scripture actually broke the pens when they were done. They wouldn’t speak his revealed name out loud. Then came Jesus, who, with no fear of religious leaders, a man who spoke with complete authority and on the sermon of the mount with unmistakable familiarity. This radical rabbi, didn’t speak in these terms disrespectfully but he was bringing the aspect of family and intimacy versus an arena of fear and trembling to even mention the name Yahweh.
He was saying, Father God wants a relationship.
Tender, pure, loving, and understanding. Not fear, but love and appreciation of a benevolent God/Father. Appreciation and reverence for his grace and compassion, ABSOLUTELY. BUT,He wanted to be Dad! Wow, think about the God Almighty, the burning bush, splitting the Red Sea, maker of heaven and earth wanting to be called Daddy and come sit in my lap. What a paradigm shift for that day. But to be honest, it is no less a paradigm shift in our day.How does one get their head around that? Many didn’t – couldn’t – wouldn’t.What about those of you without a good father figure in your life? You have no solid parallel. No easy model or correlation. How do you see what you’ve never known or worse still…the father who abandoned you or abused you or was just never there for you? How many have just buried that because there was nothing that could change the past?Now, we stand in His presence. Called by name! Out of the darkness into his marvelous light. 1 Peter 2:9 Called and paid with a price! The highest price imaginable. What is any life worth for your sake? Really! What is the worth or value of the Real Son of God dying for YOU?PERSONALLY?
When he says, my ways are above your ways, my thoughts above your thoughts. Is 55:8 Isn’t this one of them?
Truth is… we can ONLY IMAGINE! We cannot know the depth of that kind of love! That kind of sacrifice.BUT – IT IS THE TRUTH. ABSOLUTE. UNCHANGING. NEVER ENDING. SO HELP ME GOD… THE TRUTH.
If you will meditate on this truth and take it in… IT WILL CHANGE YOU!
We would surely lay down our lives to save our children. That may be the closest you can get to knowing his heart. Matt 7:11“If you then, evil (sinful by nature) as you are, know how to give good and advantageous gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven [perfect as He is] give what is good and advantageous to those who keep on asking Him”.Scripture says God’s ways are “perfect” (Psalm 18:30), that He is a “faithful God who does no wrong,” and is “upright and just“ (Deuteronomy 32:4). That makes Him the perfect Father you never had. He said in 2 Corinthians 6:18 "And I will be a father to you, and you shall be sons and daughters to me, says the Lord Almighty." Psalm 103:17 says, “from everlasting to everlasting the Lord’s love is with those who fear him, and his righteousness with their children’s children.” And Psalm 106:1 says, “for he is good; his love endures forever.”
“Then you will call, and the LORD will answer; you will cry out, and He will say, ‘Here I am.’ If you remove the yoke from your midst, the pointing of the finger and malicious talk, 10and if you give yourself to the hungry and satisfy the afflicted soul, then your light will go forth in the darkness, and your night will be like noonday.…Isaiah 58:9
