10 Ways to Hear from God
Jesus said that, those who follow Him hear His voice" ( John 10:4,27 ). So, you should expect to hear from Him, right?
But many Christians feel they do not. They believe in Jesus. Their salvation is not in doubt. And yet they live without the blessing of hearing God’s voice.
AND IF WE DON’T HEAR FROM HIM – WE ASK–
• Is God really involved in my life?
• Does He really want to be involved in all the little details?
I know most of you believe the answer is YES. But somehow you may NOT KNOW how to put your finger on HOW!
People yearn to know what God has to say and that’s why psychics do so well. Even though they’re not telling anybody the truth about anything, people want some kind of supernatural information or confirmation. So they listen to philosophers, horoscopes, and honestly, some of these sound great. But you have to decide upfront what is your truth and what is your standard. IF it is God’s word then you have got to believe and want to listen and obey God vs Witchcraft.
1. God speaks audibly… This is the exception, not the rule. “This is my beloved Son”. Solomon heard him, Moses heard him, Paul heard him. 2 Timothy 3:16–17 (ESV) “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching that the man of God may be complete”, We know God’s Word is truth.
We also know that the truth of Scripture can be twisted.
That’s why we need confirmation.
How do you complete a man without talking to him?
2. He speaks to us from his word. God’s word is made alive when we read it. It is called Ramah and it is like he is speaking right to us. How many have had that happen to them?
3. He speaks through the Holy Spirit.
In that holy of holies in our heart, the Old Testament lays out the template.
The Outer Court is our body, The inner court is our soul,
The holy of holies is our heart,
( a tabernacle made without hands.) Spirit to Spirit.
No longer does he reside in the temple, He tore the veil that restricted access to that private place and put His Spirit inside us. He makes our heart His Holy of Holies.
Look at this: In Colossians 2:11.” In Him, you were also circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the sins[a] of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ. We can’t do this physically like being circumcised on the 8th day. So God said HE rent the veil of the flesh of our hearts. He made a way where there was no way.
Finally, that Inner Witness is the Holy Spirit.
a. The Holy Spirit speaks through a sudden flash of inspiration. It just came to me! I can’t explain it! But you know its God. How many have had this happen? (Name two.)
Again, you should temper this with other tests. Does it line up with biblical principles, does your spouse/church bear witness.
B. Holy Spirit speaks through impressions. Like a faint feeling or thought prompting you to say or do something. Intercessors say you were on my heart. Or I had an urge to pray. You don’t hear an actual voice of God, but you feel this strong sense in your spirit and an urging to follow it. You may not see the initial fruit of that obedience.
But what’s important is to follow those promptings.
C. Holy Spirit speaks in a still small voice. 1 kings 19:2. It can be so quiet that you will miss it if you’re not paying attention.
We will explore the other 6 this week as we press in to hear God speak to us. But through any of the mentioned means, it requires time in His presence. Time to listen, not just to pray. Time to be still and wait on the fullness of the spirit to speak and guide you, however, He chooses.
Would you stop and pray for my Mom Adell she is in a spiritual battle for her life. Prayer is the answer that God has called for. Would you also pray with your family and us this week for just an hour? Would you get awkward, with your silence? As awkward as it is, you will grow through it into a closer more intimate walk with God. It will forever change your life…and your walk with God.
