Eyes of the Heart — Godly insight on Wisdom & Revelation

Can I provide a bit of an exercise for you today?  You have often read that we already have what we need in Christ — wisdom, revelation, victory — but too often we carry it as head-knowledge instead of walking in it. This devotion will help you move from hearing to seeing, from knowing about God to knowing Him by experience.  I pray you stay with me.

The Anchors of Scripture

  • Ephesians 1:17–18“that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ… may give you the Spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of him, having the eyes of your heart enlightened…”
  • Ephesians 3:16–19 — prayer that Christ may dwell in our hearts and that we might know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge.
  • 2 Corinthians 4:6“God… has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.”
  • 2 Corinthians 3:18 — as we behold the Lord’s glory we are transformed.
  • 1 Corinthians 2:9–10; James 1:5; Proverbs 2:6; Galatians 6:9; Ephesians 2:6 (seated with Christ).
(Keep these close — memorize one or two. Pray them.)

Think about it.

Revelation is not first a clever thought — it is the Spirit pulling back a curtain.
Paul prayed that God would give believers the Spirit of wisdom and revelation so that the eyes of the heart would be enlightened (Eph. 1:17–18). That language matters: your inner person has eyes. God wants you to see with them.  I know you have heard this but do you know this as truth?
Would you honestly say you walk in His truth like that?

Yes, you already have victory positionally — you are seated with Christ (Eph. 2:6). The missing piece for many is not a new promise but a personal encounter that makes that promise alive. That encounter comes from persistent prayer, steady feeding on the Word, and expectancy: asking God for wisdom (James 1:5), refusing to be moved by circumstances, and continuing in faithful practice
until the light breaks through.

Revelation often arrives slowly — not always on the first or fifth prayer. Persistence moves heaven. Luke: 18: 1-8 A key purpose of persistent prayer is to transform the one who is praying. The process aligns a person’s will with God’s, strengthens faith, and develops a deeper relationship with a personal Savior. Paul paid the price in prayer; you must be willing to stay. You must know this is a war! When God shines in your heart, darkness flees and the gospel becomes sight, not just sound (2 Cor. 4:6; 4:4).

Can I help with some practical steps that are both doable, and repeatable?

  1. Pray Ephesians 1:17–18 aloud every morning for 7–21 days: Ask the Father for the Spirit of wisdom and revelation. Pray it until it means something in your spirit.
  2. Read the Word until it BECOMES light in you. Choose one passage (e.g., Ephesians 1–3, 2 Cor. 3–4) and read slowly — underline what lights up, then pray over it. Hebrews 4:12 — let the Word do its work.
  3. Ask and expect. When you lack wisdom, ask (James 1:5). Expect an answer from the Spirit, not just more ideas.
  4. Confess what is already yours. Use short declarations (below) daily — speak them until they take root.
  5. Persevere. Don’t quit. Galatians 6:9 — continue; in due season, revelation and harvest will come.
  6. Practice seeing. When you read Scripture, pause and ask: “Father, show me — what do you want me to see here?” Wait. Listen.

A short, simple prayer you can use

Father, by the name of Jesus, I ask: give me the Spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of You. Open the eyes of my heart; let me see what I have only heard. Strengthen my inner man by Your Spirit so Christ may dwell richly in my heart. I receive Your light; I refuse to be satisfied with head-knowledge. Make Your hope, power, and love alive in me. In Jesus’ name, amen.

(Pray it. Then stand on it. Pray it again tomorrow.)  Print this and keep it close.

Declarations (speak these aloud)

  • “The eyes of my heart are enlightened; I see the hope of His calling.” — Eph. 1:18
  • “Wisdom is given to me freely when I ask.” — James 1:5
  • “God’s light shines in my heart; darkness must flee.” — 2 Cor. 4:6
  • “I am seated with Christ; I walk in His victory.” — Eph. 2:6
  • “I will not grow weary; in due season I will reap.” — Gal. 6:9

Ready to step into the deeper waters?  A 7-day listening plan

  • Day 1: Pray Eph. 1:17–18; read Ephesians 1.
  • Day 2: Read Ephesians 3; pray for Christ to dwell in your heart.
  • Day 3: Read 2 Corinthians 3–4; ask for unveiled sight.
  • Day 4: Quiet day — 20 minutes of listening prayer; journal impressions.
  • Day 5: Read James 1 and pray for wisdom; confess declarations.
  • Day 6: Share one insight with a trusted brother/friend — speaking helps solidify sight.
  • Day 7: Rest, reflect, thank God for any stirrings of revelation.

Questions to bring before God

  • What is one truth I have heard that I’ve never allowed to become real inside me?
  • Where am I relying on head-knowledge instead of the Spirit’s seeing?
  • What will I do this week to refuse discouragement and keep praying?

Be encouraged: God wants to show you — more than information, He wants transformation. Pray until what you confess becomes what you see. Keep going. Keep confessing. Keep reading. Keep expecting. The curtain can be pulled back for you — and when it is, you will not walk the same way again.
