THE POTTERS HOUSE PART 1
Jeremiah 18:1 "This is the word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord: 2 “Go down to the potter’s house, and there I will give you my message.” 3 So I went down to the potter’s house, and I saw him working at the wheel. 4 But the pot he was shaping from the clay was marred in his hands; so the potter formed it into another pot, shaping it as seemed best to him".
There are many ways to take this scripture but for today I believe that it says no matter the situation that you’re in, you will be able to hear from God if you will diligently seek him. “”I will give you a message”.
Although you will always be able to get direction from God, you may not always like it. He may tell you that you’re struggling with unbelief, or a critical spirit, pride, the spirit of offense…. You name it.
In John 14 God said he would send us the spirit of truth so we could know the truth. But do you remember as a child going up to your parents or uncle or a grandparent and they told you how you were wrong about something or what an idiot you were about something you did? And it was like someone slapped you up alongside the head and really got your attention. I think that is what God does to us sometimes when we go and seek his wisdom and direction and for change in our lives.
I can hear God saying, child, I hear what you're asking but let’s talk about YOU! Let’s talk about the way that YOU think and the way that YOU see things and the way that YOU let your feelings carry you off on one tangent after another rather than earnestly seeking my word or my face for direction and truth. And then not waiting upon me until you get it, rather than rushing foolheartedly into some presumption of worldly truth.
Sometimes God speaks to us but we’re just not listening!
There are times that he says you have elevated food in your life to be a comfort for you in front of me. You’ve allowed all of this time to watch television instead of praying and studying and being about my work so that I can use you. Or it could be your job or kids… whatever! Ouch. Oh my does that hurt!
Sometimes when we’re reaching out to God to talk to us, we hear that and go…OH NO! that’s not what I want to talk about. God, I have a Christmas list here and I need you to really work with me in these areas.
And God is in a fact saying that I can’t work through you
in these other areas until I work in you.
Reading God‘s word and spending time with him in prayer and/or intercession are ways that God speaks to us. But we get too busy with the comforts of our lives until the passageways to our heart and our ears get blocked. And we become that deaf, dumb, and blind kid.
2 “Go down to the potter’s house, and there I will give you my message.” The Potters House is where we go to get remade. He doesn't just camouflage our imperfections; he exposes them and then encourages us to use them as part of our testimony to help others going through similar struggles.
Lord hear my cry to change. Hear my heart over my flesh. Save me from me. Teach me to stay on the wheel at the Potters House until you remake me completely into your image.
