10 Ways to Hear from God 4-5-6 Part II
We continue our study of how to hear from God.
4. He speaks through the gifts of the spirit,
(words of wisdom, or words of knowledge).
The Word of Wisdom is a word God speaks to US. A Word of Knowledge is a word that comes from another.
The Word of Wisdom is a spiritual gift listed in 1 Corinthians 12:8. Some Christians see this gift as a prophetic-like function and others see it as a teaching function. The problem with human wisdom is that it has no way of accessing God’s wisdom. God’s wisdom must be revealed by the Holy Spirit and then believed or else it remains secret and hidden (Isaiah 55:8–9) Paul quotes Isaiah 64:4 to sum up these ideas and reveal that the motive behind God’s secret wisdom has always been to provide for His people. Isaiah wrote that “no eye has seen, ear has heard, or human heart has imagined what God has prepared for those who love Him”.
The Word of Knowledge is a word that comes from another to offer wisdom, direction, and/or guidance for a brother or sister. 1 Corinthians 12:7-11 “To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given through the Spirit the utterance of wisdom, and to another, the utterance of knowledge according to the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gift of healing by the one Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another the ability to distinguish between spirits, to other various kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. All these are empowered by one and the same Spirit, who apportions to each one individually as he wills”.
5. He speaks through the prophets. God said, "he will make his secrets known through his prophets". Remember priests speak from the people to the lord. A Prophet speaks from the Lord to the people. You may walk in the Prophetic from time to time, as you really draw close to God. 1 Corinthians 14:3 “The one who prophesies speaks to people for their upbuilding and encouragement and consolation.” To others, it is a gift but again always seek confirmation. 1 John 4:1 “Beloved, do not believe every spirit but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world.
6. Speaks in visions. Young men have visions A vision is something seen in a dream, trance, or a deep spiritual experience or appearance that usually conveys a revelation. Acts 2:17 “‘And in the last days it shall be, God declares, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams; Daniel 1:17 ESV / As for these four youths, God gave them learning and skill in all literature and wisdom, and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams.”
In the New Testament, visions occur primarily in the Book of Revelation, Luke, and Acts. In Luke 1:26-27, the angel Gabriel tells Mary of her favor as she conceives Jesus having never been with a man. The apostles had visions to prepare them for events, encounters, or ministry (Acts 9:10-19) and (Acts:10:3-35)
We will explore the other 3 this week as we press in to hear God speak to us. But through any of the mentioned means, it requires time in His presence. Time to listen, not just to pray. Time to be still and wait on the fullness of the spirit to speak and guide you, however, He chooses. Please pray for my Mom, Adell,, She is living by faith fighting pneumonia and we must build a hedge of healing and protection around her. Remember Pastor Dale Brooks as he awaits results from Moffitt Cancer Center. We need complete healing for these two mighty people of God.
